North Country Symposium

June 17th @ 11am-1pm

The Future of Rural Housing

The 2nd part of the 18th Annual North Country Symposium, "Foundations for North Country Resident Recruitment," will be held this Thursday, June 17th from 11am-1pm. This will be presented in a virtual format via Zoom.

"Moving In, Moving Out, and Moving Over - the Future of Rural Housing"

There is a wave of change coming to rural America - people are moving in, moving out, and moving over resulting in major demographic shifts that will forever change the face of rural communities and have far-reaching consequences. During the next 20 years we are poised to welcome in a whole new generation of residents as nearly three-quarters of our owner-occupied housing will turn over as seniors and baby boomers move out. A broad examination of the trends related to these moves - such as workforces housing, a tight labor market, and changing residential preferences - will be discussed. At the end of this event, you won't be able to say you don't see this coming!

Join Ben Winchester and Symposium participants online to look at housing in rural America, its future - and how it will impact our ability to recruit and retain residents. In breakout sessions we will discuss senior housing decisions, housing resources in our communities, and what actions we can take to prepare for the wave of change. A jamboard will be utilized to capture thoughts, questions, and ideas.
