The gains with determination
We often share how the Alinker needs time and effort to get used to, so your body can adjust to a different way of walking. Sizing is really important and if your inseam in not minimum 27" the Small is too tall for you. But when the size is right, determination will bring you results. We have a 30 day return policy, because within 30 days you should feel the benefits, after the initial discomforts as your body adjusts.
Please read what Lynn has already experienced in the first month.
Hello Alinker family,
May I share the change the Alinker has brought to my life in one short month?
In 1998 I had a very bad case of flu; a week later, I could not raise my arms to remove my clothing over my head. It took five years for me to receive a diagnosis of inclusion body myositis. There is no cure; fortunately in my case, it has progressed slowly.
I am an active person and do not accept losing use of my muscles without a fight. I exercise with water therapy, stretch 30 minutes every day, and ride a stationary recumbent bicycle. The pandemic and inactivity which ensued caused me to search for a way to “get back into the game.” I found the Alinker and after doing my research and watching the videos, I decided the Alinker was something I would like to try. This decision became stronger because of the naysayers on the IBM Facebook page telling me I’d be smarter to put the money into a power chair rather than buy something I wouldn’t be able to use for very long, if at all!
So far, I have had the Alinker for one month. The first week was awful—terrible pain in my crotch, constant adjustments of the seat height and tilt, and disappointment that the hand brake is impossible to use (even though I suspected it would be). I tried to change seats, which didn’t work, and then I finally ordered a gel seat cushion cover which, along with the proper adjustments of tilt and height, seems to be working. My disease and the progression of it is unlike anyone else’s experience. I’m sure that all those who have physical challenges are exactly the same in that their experience is unlike anyone else’s. Your forethought and planning and constant adjusting to make the Alinker a product that we can also adapt and adjust to our individual needs is quite phenomenal.
I was very determined not to give up. Fortunately, I have a wonderful husband who patiently adjusted and readjusted the seat every day for me until we got the height and tilt that seems to work. I am ecstatic to see that you are developing a size extra small because I think that’s probably what more of us needed. I have a great deal of trouble getting myself up onto the seat as well as off of it and do need help.
With all that said, on Saturday I was thrilled to have worked my way up to 2000 steps. My husband keeps his hand on my back to provide gentle and constant forward momentum because we have decided that what I need is the exercise of my legs rather than the independence. With him helping to keep the forward momentum, I am able to maintain a continual pace and achieve a great workout. My goal was to make it to 1500 steps by the end of June and I have already achieved 2000 by the middle of June!

My other goal was to have more independence during the day when I go out with my friends. I was feeling very wobbly and off-balance when walking independently, but a walker is cumbersome and I cannot grip a cane. Already, I can walk more steadily and confidently to and from the car, into the restaurants, and around the stores. This is a tremendous change and gain of independence!
I actually wake up in the morning and I’m excited to get out on my Alinker by 5:30 AM before the heat arrives in the desert of Yuma, AZ. I’ve included a picture of me in front of our local mountain range with the sun coming up—the day I hit 2000 steps.
With great love for you and your efforts on our behalf,
Lynn Lizarraga

but please yes to sharing he said :)
We recently ordered the Alinker in a small size.
I listened to the voicemail you left me a few minutes ago and want to confirm with you the size we need.
Actually, this order is for my 88 year old mother-in-law who has a very bad back but still wants to stay active. Since she does not know that much about computers, I volunteered to "get the ball moving" for this order. Her inseam length is 28.5" measured per the instructions on your website. The small size will fit her nicely. Thank you so much for following up to ensure we received the correct size.
Just so you know, a neighbor of ours has had a small version (size) Alinker for about a year. She has osteoporosis in her knees and finds it very hard to walk. They were researching machines that allowed a person to walk or ride with little to no strain on her knees. They even purchased a recumbent bicycle but were unhappy with it. After a lot of research they found your site and purchased the small size Alinker about a year ago. We have noticed she has really improved her mobility over the past few months and seems to really enjoy using it around our neighborhood.
My mother-in-law was an avid walker, loving to be outdoors. Unfortunately she had knee surgery at 87, as well as a bad back. My wife took her to our friend's house to let her test her Alinker. She immediately loved it. On her first test ride my wife said she was going so fast she had trouble keeping up with her. She was in total control and immediately felt comfortable. Needless to say my Mother-in-law is looking forward to receiving her Alinker.
Thank you and your company for designing and developing such a machine.
