We are coming up to the winter solstice and that means shorter days and longer colder nights. Don’t let these things deter you from coming along and attending our monthly, morning meetings. We have had a fabulous array of speakers, thanks to Donna Thistlethwaite, and in some instances world class speakers.

Our next speaker is Paula Brand -  Business Expo. Learn how you can promote your business in the local area. We are strong on Buy Local at the Chamber and the Business Expo in September is a wonderful opportunity to promote your business to a wider audience. Our Chamber will be taking a spot and if you would like to register to assist on the stand, then please contact Therese Nally. She is chairing the membership group and would love you to contact her in this regard.

The Chamber Executive met last week and are working towards holding more social events. These events, business meetings and social gatherings are a great way to network and meet new members. Look out for information on these new events.

Last but not least, welcome to our new Executive members, Donna Leach has taken on the role of Secretary, Hayley Lingard is now a Vice President and has provided a great source of support to everyone on the Executive over the past few years.

Remember, we are still in the throes of a Pandemic, this means that we need to keep socially distancing, washing our hands and being aware of changes which occur with very little notice.  Mary

Wanted: Local Businesses for Refugee Career Matching Opportunities

Are you in a position to offer employment or work experience to a qualified lawyer, accountant or IT professional seeking local Australian experience?

We’ve been approached by three proactive Brisbane-based candidates who just happen to be from refugee backgrounds. All we need are local companies to match them with as part of our Refugee Career Matching & Mentoring Initiative.

You don’t need to be a member of our Hills Chamber to participate, just an ability to offer any of the following: paid employment, work experience or mentoring. These are some of the most practical ways you can help people from refugee backgrounds “get a foot in the door” to employment in Australia.
Interested? Click here.

Not right now? If you know of another organisation that could be a good fit, please share this post.

This ground-breaking program is led by The Hills and Districts Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Romero Centre. It is the one of the first partnerships of its kind in Australia between a Chamber of Commerce and the local refugee community.  Craig
