Chairman's Chat

Dear Members,
Welcome to what will be my monthly ‘Chairman Chat’ newsletter. I plan through these newsletters to keep you updated on happenings at the club and giving you a glance behind the scenes, as a well as highlighting events and encouraging you to come along and get involved.
Sadly, I start my first newsletter reflecting on the sad news of the passing of our dear friend and club stalwart Dave Levings. There are not enough superlatives to describe Dave, he was truly just one of the nicest people I have met and had the chance to call a friend, he was a true gentleman. Having had the privilege to travel the length and breadth of the country with Dave and the Exec as we visited many grounds in support of the 1st XV, his funny stories about when he played and his infectious enthusiasm for our club made him fantastic company. He was always someone a lot of us would go to for advice and guidance when it came to club matters and I know I speak for many when I say he will be dearly missed.
It has been such a busy time at the club and so much of the hard work that goes on behind the scenes, does so unnoticed. However, those M&Js parents and players with a keen eye, who frequent Carrington on a Sunday, will have seen that our new clubhouse is starting to take shape with the final builder’s work being completed over the next week or two. This was possible through the money that you all help raised earlier this year through our ‘Crowdfunding’ efforts. This will be a volunteer run clubhouse with new catering and bar facilities, there will also be a new pool table and dart board, so I would imagine a few club competitions being held between teams down there.
We have also reintroduced a House Committee to the club. This is made up of volunteers and chaired by our Club President. The aim of the committee is to put on club events and improve the match day experience at both Heywood Road and Carrington for our members and visitors. The Exec have already been briefed on their plans for the upcoming year and they look fantastic. A full calendar of these events will be published soon, please look out for this and I encourage you all to get involved. It will be the events we have planned that will help the club get back to being fully operational as we start to open again post lockdown. I would also like to announce that following the recent AGM and in line with delivering the clubs business strategy, I have taken the opportunity to co-opt the following people onto the Executive:
Mr Anthony Howcroft, will act as the Property Portfolio Lead for the club: Tony (or Tote as he is known to most at the club in his other role as 1st XV Head Coach) has extensive background and understandings of the property market given his current business interests. Tony will lead and develop our club strategy around our current rental portfolio at both Carrington and Heywood Road and the identification of future opportunities on both these sites.
Mr Peter Smith, will take on the role of Match Day lead and sponsorship relations. Pete is both a sponsor (PES) and a Sale FC Rugby club member. He is also a current Director of Rochdale Rugby League Club and previously a Director shareholder of Swinton Lions. With Pete having played a key role in increasing numbers for Swinton's pre-match hospitality and attendances by improving the match-day experience for members, visitors and sponsors, he is well placed to help us engage you as members and create a match day experience that we can all enjoy.
Mr Anthony Sheridan, otherwise known as Olly or Tony, will be taking on a lead role as Commercial & Shop Lead. Tony has been a club sponsor and club member for a few years now. Tony is a very successful businessman who previously played a key role in the development of the Manchester United Megastore. The role would see Tony to lead on developing, streamlining our commercial operations, and identifying new opportunities. He is currently working on an exciting new project that we will announce later this month.
I would like to again thank our outgoing Chairman Stave Smith for his years of dedication and commitment to Sale FC Rugby. Even since he stepped down, Steve has still been working away helping the club as we look to deliver on our business strategy.
I will leave it there and ask you to look out for upcoming announcements, via the newsletter, webpage and social media.
Yours in rugby

Dr Scott Bambrick
Club Chairman
