Meet the Makers Part 2

MONOCHROME is a cross genre
exhibition that highlights the subtleties
of line, mark, form and texture.

With work by twenty contemporary makers
the exhibition looks beyond colour and considers
what we would generally term the opposite: all the nuances
between the polarities of black and white.

Below we celebrate the next
5
exhibiting makers

The tactile nature of my work is intentional;
an invitation to touch. I am constantly working into
each piece ‘making stitches’ or lines of weave and
the result is often cloth-like in appearance.
The scrape marks are visible and the surface is a plane
of shallow relief, like an elaborate braille or a tapestry.

The scarves I produce are lovingly woven
on traditional shuttle looms using a double plain technique,
giving them a truly unique and distinctive look.
I pride myself on sourcing the finest silks.

I adore the tactile quality of the end products
which are a pleasure to hold and use. Each piece is
designed to be loved and the delicate yet durable quality
of the porcelain makes them a pleasure to handle.

I am a London based textile artist. My practice is
focused on creating narrative cartographic textiles that
explore place, history and belonging through stitch. I am drawn
to making maps not only because they are beautiful objects
in their own right but also because they are
repositories for meaning.

My work is about simplicity of design and shape,
bringing these in relationship to the surface. I am inspired by
the elemental colour and shape of ancient Korean pottery.
What I love about ceramic is that it starts of as a soft
lump and can become pretty much anything you want it to be.
After the firing it is hard and durable and can survive centuries.
But at the same time it is fragile and can be broken
into pieces in a moment.
