Shut It Down - the MVP Protest Run Forum

Join us on Thursday, June 24th at 6:30 PM ET for a special panel discussion featuring the MVP Protest Runners, community supporters and other special guests. In late April into early May of this year, a group of three incredible women successfully ran alongside the entire Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP) mainline route - in protest of the pipeline’s construction. They ran to elevate the communities in the MVP fight, putting their bodies on the line to declare that we are running out of time to prevent climate catastrophe. The MVP is a 303-mile fracked natural gas, high-pressure, 42-inch diameter pipeline that is slated to originate in Mobley, WV and terminate in Chatham, VA.

Tune in to see never-before-seen footage and images from the run, hear directly from the runners about what they witnessed on the path of the pipeline and take in the unforgettable stories they heard firsthand. Listen to directly-impacted community members talk about what the MVP Protest Run meant to them, what’s on deck for their communities and how you can get involved from here. The MVP is unneeded, and its unlawful permits are mired in litigation. Construction is wreaking havoc on fragile mountain ecosystems, threatening over 600 remaining water crossings. The fight is far from over --  and stopping the MVP now will prevent climate-wrecking methane from ever flowing through the MVP and the MVP Southgate Extension into North Carolina. During the event we’ll be taking actions to remind the Biden Administration that the MVP’s potential to emit near 90 million metric tons of greenhouse gasses a year is NOT compatible with their climate goals (Oil Change International).

The MVP Protest Runners are approaching their goal of $15,000 in funds raised, with donations going to the Monacan Indian Nation Cultural Foundation and Protect Our Water Heritage Rights. Can you chip in $5 before the panel event to help them cross the finish line?

Yes - I'll Chip in $5!

📢 Take action now to stop the MVP/MVP Southgate fossil fuel projects in our region! 📢

The May 2nd, 2021 No MVP/No MVP Southgate Water Walk was a true gathering. Skillful and welcoming indigenous leadership created embodied witness by gathering environmental protectors across race, tribe, gender, faith and across state and national borders.
On May 2nd, small teams walked, paddled, or biked the entire proposed Mountain Valley Southgate route. 7 Directions of Service, which led the Water Walk, collaborated with the Pittsylvania County NAACP Environmental Justice Committee to begin the day near the proposed site of the Lambert Compressor Station which plans to connect the MVP Southgate to the MVP main line - a bridge from nothing to nowhere.

Use your voice by signing the 7 Directions of Service petition to President Biden and attend the NAACP webinar on June 29, 7:30 PM - 9 PM: Community Conversation: Pittsylvania Lambert Compressor Station - What You Need To Know (more info below).

Action Alert: Comment on Mountain Valley Pipeline by June 22

Your comments needed by June 22! The Mountain Valley Pipeline has applied for a Water Quality Certification from the WV Department of Environmental Protection. This permit is required by Section 401 of the Clean Water Act to ensure that a project can meet water quality standards. The WVDEP has the authority to approve, approve with special conditions, or deny MVP’s application.

We urge you to contact the WVDEP today. Tell them MVP's water quality certification should be denied.

The Mountain Valley Pipeline would impact 4.2 miles of streams and 12.4 acres of wetlands in West Virginia. MVP's construction has already violated water quality standards in approximately 50 streams and wetlands. WVDEP has fined MVP on two separate occasions totaling over $500,000 for their negligent construction practices which created conditions not allowable in waters of the state. Tell WVDEP to protect our water resources from this proven disaster of a project and deny MVP's application.

Want to do more? WVDEP will be holding a virtual public hearing on MVP's water quality certification on June 22 at 6:00pm. Join the hearing via Zoom, or join by phone at 1-646-558-8656, Meeting ID: 898 4187 6081; Passcode: 765886.
