PDST: School Support for 21/22
PDST PE School Support is open for applications for the school year 21/22.  We would love to work with your school and together we can explore priority PE strands, as well as other aspects of how PE is taught and physical literacy. Check out the NEW PDST resources to support the development of social skills and personal qualities in PE.  Explore videos, assessment templates, activities and much more to support the development of skills such as fair play, teamwork and commitment. 
 
PDST: Introduction to Physical Literacy Webinar Recording
Check out a recording of our recent live webinar 'Introduction to Physical Literacy'.  This webinar is ideal for any school beginning or continuing their Physical Literacy journey using the Move Well Move Often resource

(NEW) IPPEA: Disentangling Inclusion in Primary PE
Disentangling Inclusion in Primary PE (DIPPE) is an Erasmus+ funded project to promote inclusion in primary physical education classes for all children, with a focus on children with additional needs. The recently launched DIPPE website, highlights practices, strategies and resources to support teachers to include all children in primary PE lessons. Visit Website 

 
ASF CALENDAR for 21/22: DATES for your Diary

See below the dates for ASF challenges, initiatives and support events for next year. We encourage schools to plan ahead and to build them in to their school calendars for 2021-2022.

#BeActive WALKWAY Day 
As part of #BeActive European Week of Sport, ASF and Get Ireland Walking encourages schools to energise learning by bringing all classes out on their Active School WALKWAY.  
(Friday, September 24th) 

ASF: FIND OUT MORE webinars 
This webinar is designed for primary schools/teachers that have not previously engaged with ASF and for schools that have allowed their ASF status lapse over a number of years. The webinar will explain the ASF process, discuss the challenges and the benefits and give advice about generating whole school engagement.  
(Week of Sept. 27 - Dates TBC)

ASF: GETTING STARTED webinars 
These webinars are designed to support primary schools that have agreed, at a whole staff level, to work towards ASF during 21/22. Practical advice and supports will be given to help schools to get the ASF process up and running. Registered schools in attendance will receive ASF resources to support their work.
(Week of Oct. 11 - Dates TBC)

(NEW) PUPIL Leadership webinars
This webinar is designed to support primary schools to put a system of playground leaders in place. The ASF committee and other leadership roles will also be discussed. Teacher presenters will share their ideas, resources and learnings. All ASF (schools with ASF status + schools working towards ASF) are encouraged to attend.
(Week of Nov, 1 - Dates TBC)

Active Break Every Day challenge 
This 4-week challenge is designed to motivate and to support teachers/schools to build movement breaks into their daily routine. This challenge is one of the KEY whole-of-school activities for schools working towards ASF and should form part of the annual calendar for schools with ASF status. 
(Nov. 8 - Dec. 3)

WALKWAY webinars 
Primary schools that have registered that they are working towards ASF will be invited to this walkway-focused webinar. Teacher presenters will share their ideas, resources and learnings. Schools in attendance will receive a Walkway resource pack.
(Week of Jan. 31 - Dates TBC) 

(NEW - Part 2) RUN Around IRELAND challenge
ASF encourages ALL schools to commit to the 4-week running challenge. The Run Around IRELAND challenge is a great way to bring learning outdoors. The 2022 challenge (Part 2) will allow pupils to learn about 20 Irish landmarks and festivals, including the Wexford Opera festival, the Peace Bridge and the National Stud. This challenge is one of the KEY whole-of-school activities for schools working towards ASF and should form part of the annual calendar for schools with ASF status. 
(March 14 - April 8)

Active School Week (#ASW22) webinars
ASF will share NEW ideas and resources to support schools with their #ASW22 programmes, as well as showcasing  #ASW initiatives from schools across the country. 
(Week of March 28 - Dates TBC)

ASF: NEARLY THERE webinars 
Primary schools that have registered that they are working towards ASF will be invited to this applications-focused webinar designed to explain the screening and accreditation processes. The evidence required by the ASF team on websites/slideshows will also be discussed. ASF team members will be available answer any questions/queries that schools might have, via Chat, throughout the webinar. 
(Week of  April 4 - Dates TBC)

Active School Week (#ASW22) 
Active School Week is one of the KEY whole-of-school activities for schools working towards ASF and should form part of the annual calendar for schools with ASF status. As always, if the national dates don't suit schools are free to organise their #ASW22 on another week.

(NEW) ASF RESOURCES for 21/22 

(NEW) Walkway Challenges
Over the summer months we will design a NEW range of Walkway challenges, with ready-made challenge chart templates in both Irish and English. The 21/22 challenges will promote learning about colours, flags, time and shapes. We look forward to sharing these with you in the autumn term. .

APPLICATIONS Process: PRIMARY Schools 

SCREENING Process
ASF applications received up until June 18th (this Friday) will be forwarded for screening and, if successful should receive their accreditation call before the end of June. Applications received after that date will be saved and forwarded to the screening committee for review when screening re-opens on October 1st.

REGISTRATION for ASF
The registration portal for ASF will re-open on October 1st. We very much look forward to working with lots of new and renewal schools next year. Schools working towards ASF are advised to attend the ASF online webinars. See ASF Calendar for provisional dates. 

Renewal Schools; OUTDOOR BANNERS
Renewal schools that attend both the 'Getting Started' and the 'Nearly There' webinars will, upon successful completion of the ASF process, receive an outdoor banner for their school railings.  The banners will issue to schools in early-September. 


APPLICATIONS Process: POST PRIMARY Schools 

(NEW) ASFPP Process
We have commenced a phased roll out of the NEW ASF process for post primary schools (ASFPP), with 18 new schools joining the initiative in September 2021. If your school is interested in joining ASFPP, commencing September 2022, please email postprimarysupport@activeschoolflag.ie and we will contact you about the ASFPP 'What's It All About?' information webinar that will take place in early 2022.
