Dear KTFC Community,
We are thrilled to be moving in the right direction with "return to sport". The end is in sight! We look forward to providing the athletes with a fun-filled end to the 2021 outdoor season. We are now able to host athletes from anywhere in BC for competition and have some spectators cheering as well!
We would like to extend our appreciation to club members, parents, coaches, volunteers, athletes, and officials who have continued the fight to keep activity and sport alive through this pandemic! The benefits to youth and our sport go beyond words.
Return to Sport Updates
As you all know, on June 15th, BC moved to Step 2 of the Restart Plan. viaSport's updated Return to Sport Restart 2.0 Chart and FAQ documents can be viewed HERE. CLICK HERE to read the updates from BC Athletics.
A few key updates for outdoors:
- Up to 50 spectators are allowed at training and competitions
- Social distancing is no longer required on the field of play (this includes coaches, volunteers, and officials)
- Masks are not required for anyone
- Adults can participate in training and competitions
- All athletes can travel within BC for the purposes of training and competition
- Group sizes must remain under 50, but can be divided into multiple sections (track, jumps, throws, for example), to accommodate more than one group of 50
Outdoor Competitions and Season Wrap Up
Competitions
Hosted by KTFC
Now that we can host real track and field meets, we have renamed our two competitions and will be inviting athletes to register from all around BC! We will be hosting the Kamloops Restart Meet on Saturday, June 26th and the Kamloops Invitational on Friday, July 9th and Saturday, July 10th. These are fantastic opportunities for athletes to face some provincial competition!
Out of Town Competitions
Athletes are welcome and encouraged to pursue out of town opportunities to compete following our final meet on July 9th/10th. With travel restrictions eased, several opportunities will be available. Parents and athletes can search for meets via the BC Athletics Calendar or via Trackie.
Registration - Submitting Season Best "Seed Times"
We are requesting that athletes submit their season-best "seed times/heights/distances" when registering for a competition if possible. This is good practice for athletes as they progress into high level meets. It also allows placement in the correct race/event section to ensure the best competitive opportunity. If you don't know them off hand, you can find them by looking at your results from previous outdoor meets this year. CLICK HERE.

Thank you to Coach Dayl, Coach Sophia, Coach Eli, and Coach Kaidi for their endless amounts of energy for these groups. We look forward to welcoming these future stars back in September for our next sessions.

Recap: Tokyo Qualifier Series
KTFC hosted three high performance throws competitions in the month of June. Each were part of the Athletics Canada Tokyo Qualifier Series where athletes had the opportunity to compete within Canada to qualify for the Tokyo 2021 Olympic/Paralympic Games and gain world ranking points. The Kamloops Throws Festival, Victoria Track Classic (throws only), and the Vancouver Sun Harry Jerome Track Classic (throws only) all took place at Hillside Stadium.

The events were very successful despite the COVID restrictions which limited the number of athletes who were eligible to compete. We would like to thank all of our sponsors and supporters: Athletics Canada, BC Athletics, Province of BC, Pacific Sport Interior, the City of Kamloops, and A&T Project Developments. Coach Dylan Armstrong and the Elke Family spearheaded this effort to keep the dreams alive for athletes during COVID. It wouldn't have been possible without their passion for the sport!
We look forward to welcoming athletes back from across the country next year for the 2nd Annual Kamloops Throws Festival!
Notable Results
In-Club Performance Trials - PBs Achieved
Several of our athletes have achieved personal bests (PBs) over the course of our "In Club Performance Trials". These achievements should be recognized, especially during a time when the athletes have only been able to race each other in mixed age and gender competitions! This is not an easy feat!
Results from our previous "In-Club Performance Trials" can be viewed HERE.
Kayla Hermiston, 5km
KTFC middle distance athlete and coach, Kayla Hermiston, competed in the World Athletics Cross Country Championships, Bathurst 2021 Global Challenge (virtually). She placed 11th in the female (ages 13-17) category and qualified for the Global Finals to represent Canada!

JD coach, Miriam Dziadyk, recently received her NCCP Club Coach certification in jumps which was delayed due to COVID! This is in addition to her certifications in endurance running, as well as being a track and field official. We appreciate your dedication to professional development, Miriam!

Housekeeping Items
- Old towel donations: We are in need of old towels for the throws area for cleaning implements, particularly when it’s raining to keep them dry before each throw for competitions and daily practices. If you have any and wish to donate, please contact Judy Armstrong at 250-319-6321 for pick up.
- Used spikes available: Over time we have accumulated a number of track spikes. If you are in need of a pair, please ask your coach and you can check out the inventory we have. They are located in the Sea-Can at Hillside Stadium.
- Lost and found: Items that are left at practice are usually placed in the Sea-Cans at the track. Ask your coach if you are missing something. Alternatively, check with the front desk inside the TCC.
- Bottle donations: Don't forget to drop off your bottles for KTFC at General Grants Bottle and Recycle Depot @ 963 Camosun Crescent. Every little bit helps!
