Black Women's Health in the Media and Juneteenth 2021

Interview with Yolanda Ross and Dr. Melissa Simon on Centering Black Women's Voices and Health in the Media
June 16, 2021 | 11:45 am - 11:55 am CST

Tune in this morning to WGN between 11:45am CST-11:55am CST to view a live interview with Yolonda Ross, featured on the critically acclaimed SHOWTIME series "The Chi,” and our very own Faculty Director, Dr. Melissa Simon. Yolonda Ross’ character on the show is experiencing a new diagnosis of breast cancer and navigating the health-care system. Ross has been working with Chicago community partners and Dr. Simon to learn more about Black women’s experiences with cancer – especially breast cancer and the community partners that support Black women during these diagnoses. They will discuss the health disparities Black women face and the importance of amplifying their voices and real-life experiences when presented in the media. Yolanda Ross will also be a featured speaker in our Juneteenth Celebration this Friday, June 18th at noon.
