Black Saturday - Love and loss and learning
Sue Gunningham

Sue Gunningham lost her partner Barry in Victoria’s 2009 Black Saturday bushfires. Her memoir All the Days After documents the devastation caused by the fires, her journey through grief and the lesser-known aspects of such a tragedy - including the frustrating and often unhelpful bureaucracy confronting bewildered survivors of a major disaster.

Waldene - Love in the Shadows, her latest memoir, blends prose, poetry and love letters to tell the story of the couple’s 18 year romance before the fires.

Sue will describe some of the challenges she faced in the 12 months following the fires and beyond, and talk about the people who she encountered on the journey from loss to rebuild, depression to happiness and what she learnt from the experience.

Meg Adams OAM

Our congratulations go to our past President and Life Member, Meg Adams, on being awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the recent Queen's Birthday Honours.

She was cited for her contributions to the community of Boroondara through her many roles and over many years at both Camcare and at U3A Hawthorn.

New KIOSK check in

For those without a smartphone or unable to use QR codes for contract tracing, Service Victoria has released a new Kiosk check in procedure.

There is now a computer provided in the Office Foyer and one inside the main hall.

These display a simple form asking you to type in your name and phone number and to then "check in".

No QR codes are required and it's all done on U3A Hawthorn's equipment.

We hope this will enable all members to comply with the current government mandate that everyone must use an electronic check in to Services Victoria.

If you can use the QR codes then please continue to do so to reduce pressure on the Kiosks.
