Another favorite summer activity involves water, and there are numerous pools and splash pads around the state. My sensory seeking child loves to go around the parks and have water dumped on his head while my other child, who is more sensitive, will seek out gentler streams of water at the splash pads. Carmel Clay Parks will be having their adaptive open swim sessions at the Monon this summer.
State and national parks are also a joy this time of year. Many Indiana parks now have accessible, paved trails that will allow walkers, wheelchairs, and strollers along the paths. My son especially loves to get up close to nature and enjoys the fresh air.
There are also a ton of ideas for fun on the Family Voices Indiana Pinterest page. My daughter has enjoyed making butterflies, suncatchers, bird feeders and more on lazy, hot, summer days.
Many businesses have reopened this summer, but some may still be closed or have reduced hours. I recommend calling before you leave to verify current hours and requirements.
