Adventure Gravel Weekend

Sept. 10-12, 2021 at Slate Valley Trailhouse

This 2-day, 2-night retreat will cater to your sense of adventure as you explore the endless networks of quiet gravel and ancient forest roads of Vermont’s Slate Valley. The Slate Valley is a unique corner of the state featuring stunning natural beauty – with historic villages surrounded by rolling farmland, pristine lakes, and deep woods punctuated with sweeping views of the Taconic and Green Mountain ranges.

Enjoy two full days of guided gravel rides led by local experts.

The retreat is based out of the Slate Valley Trailhouse, located at a stunning end-of-the-road location in the heart of the Valley. This curated experience is sure to both energize and relax you!

Slate Valley Trailhouse - your home base for the weekend

What’s Included?

  • Guiding: Expert guides with a 1:5 guide to participant ratio.

  • Camping: The Slate Valley Trailhouse is located at the end of a quiet road right on the Slate Valley Trails network. We offer hot showers, clean porta-potties, WiFi, a phone charging station, bike wash and plenty of sweet spots to set up a tent or park a camper van.

  • All meals and snacks: Local, farm-fresh, whole-food menu.

    • Friday dinner and campfire bevy’s

    • Saturday breakfast, lunch and dinner plus campfire bevy’s

    • Sunday breakfast and lunch

    • Plenty of ride snacks

  • Optional Enrichment: Analog Cycles will join us for a preview of the latest retro-futurist gear for long days in the saddle & overnight adventures. Kris Dennan will offer an “Introduction to Bikepacking & Gear” mini-workshop.

  • Semi-Sag Wagon: We’ll have the Gravel Tours adventure van available at pre-arranged stops for gear toting, etc.

Is this Ride for you?

You love getting off-the-beaten path and exploring the road less travelled. You’re comfortable riding upwards of 60-75 miles in one day at a moderate pace with breaks. You’re comfortable riding on double track woods roads, gravel roads, and paved roads, including short sections of rough Class 4 “pavé”. You usually ride about three times per week and have a good cardio fitness routine. You love exploring new places, enjoy delicious, whole-food meals, and camaraderie by the campfire.

Weekend Schedule

Friday, September 10th

  • 3:00pm - 6:00pm – Arrive, check-in, set up camp. Optional DIY ride.

  • 6:30pm – Dinner

  • 7:30pm – Campfire, happy hour & gear talk and shopping with Analog Cycles

Saturday, September 11th

  • 6:00am - Coffee Hour

  • 7:00am – Breakfast & get ready to ride

  • 8:00am – Rides depart

  • Mid-day – Lunch on the road (included)

  • 4:00pm-ish – Return to Trailhouse

  • 4:00pm – 6:00pm – Free time

  • 5:00pm – Optional Mini-Workshop: Introduction to Bikepacking & Gear w/ Kris Dennan

  • 6:00 - 7:00pm - Dinner

  • 7:30pm – Campfire & happy hour

Sunday, September 12th

  • 7:00 – 8:00am - Coffee hour

  • 8:00 – 8:30am – Breakfast and get ready to ride

  • 9:00am – Rides depart

  • Mid-day – Lunch on the road (included)

  • 3:00pm – Return to Trailhouse, pack up & head home

Recommended Equipment

  • Minimum 35cc tires; 40+cc recommended

  • Please, no road shoes
