For Action
Hot Hub capacity

There is currently very high demand for the available Hot Hub appointments at the moment and we aware from our conversations with practices that this is having a big impact on you. We have been having urgent discussions with the commissioner to ask for an increase in capacity in order to meet the demand and will keep you updated
Vasectomy and 24 HR ECG procurement

Sheffield CCG is currently re-procuring both vasectomy and 24 hour ECG services using the ‘Any Qualified Provider’ process.

Following requests from shareholding practices Primary Care Sheffield is hoping to continue providing these services if it is financially viable. At the moment  our ability to continue to deliver the ECG service within the financial envelope looks promising, but we need to flag that there is no inflationary uplift on the contract value. There have been some recent changes to the Vasectomy tender documents, which has resulted in the submission date being pushed back by a month. We will keep you updated as to our thoughts on continuing the service, once we have had the opportunity to absorb the new detail and its implications.

City-wide vaccination clinic at Darnall

We’re really pleased to report that the vaccination centre at Darnall has now been mobilised after a very rapid deployment period. This follows our work with the CCG in response to supporting PCNs and practices who have needed to prioritise their time back into patient care and have been unable to continue their vaccination offer to cohorts 10-12.

Once we’ve completed our first two weeks of vaccinations and have a better understanding of demand we’re keen to work with those PCNs not offering vaccinations currently to understand how we can reach those who haven't yet taken up the vaccine in their practice populations. We would like to tailor our approach to each PCN, where this is wanted and practicable, a questionnaire should be landing with Clinical Directors and Network Managers imminently.

On the back of a walk-in trial last weekend at The Crucible Theatre, we will also consider whether further pop-ups are appropriate, and if so where, and whether the Darnall centre should continue to offer a walk-in element, ideal for those patients finding it difficult to access the national booking system.

Registering service development interests and expertise

As GP practices you came together to create PCS to do the things that you can't do alone. It's your organisation.

Our experience has shown that to deliver things the way you need them delivered we need to involve clinicians, managers and practice teams from the outset when services are being created.

Rather than wait until we have any specific project in the first stages of development, we would like to be pro-active and build up a register of those with an interest in future project development. So, if you have a specific area you are interested in then let us know so that we can contact you if input is needed in that area.

Dementia Research

GPs are being recruited to take part in a half-hour research interview to discuss their experiences of managing acute illness in patients with dementia. The research is being conducted by Dr Sam Lassa who is an Academic Clinical Fellow at the University of Sheffield and on the Rotherham VTS. If you are interested and think you could spare the time there are more details of the project below.

CASES

You will be aware that from March last year the CASES Service Coordinators were required to work from home and this had a direct impact on practice staff.  For some months, you have very kindly continued to print and send out Choose and Book letters on behalf of the team.

As time has moved on, the team have been able to attend the office on a rota basis to ensure that PCS provides a complete service to you and to the patients referred through CASES. We are pleased to inform you therefore that we no longer require your assistance in this matter and to confirm that our daily email requests to you regarding this have now ceased.

We are incredibly grateful that practices responded positively to our request for assistance and, at a time when there was significant challenge and increasing pressure on your own workloads. So please accept our genuine thanks for your support.
PCS Vision, Mission, and Priorities

We have been meeting with lots of people to get feedback on the PCS Vision, Mission and Priorities. Thank you to everyone who has shared their views.

Training for PCN staff: New dates added

Register below for free CPR and fire safety training sessions which are available to any PCN-employed staff. These sessions are provided by Primary Training Solutions.

We have added two new courses:

Health and Safety+ this session encompasses Health and Safety, Information Governance, Infection Control (non-clinical), and Moving and Handling (non-clinical) content. This newly-developed course offers the benefit of combining four mandatory training courses into one comprehensive session.

Moving and Handling Clinical (especially recommended for clinical staff) this course will be delivered face-to-face and provides an ideal approach to safer and more effective manual handling – not only meeting HSE recommendations, but also promoting good and safe practices in any situation.

Places are offered on a first-come first-served basis, however if your choice of date is fully booked please add your details to the waiting list and we will contact you if a place becomes available. This course will be delivered via the Zoom platform so all booked staff must have appropriate equipment (computer/laptop with microphone and camera)

Please note that we continue to offer the CPR sessions 'in person' in line with national guidance. These sessions will follow the government's COVID-19 secure guidelines in full.

Please contact pts.clientcontact@gmail.com for any further info you may require.
