And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
(Romans 8:28 NKJV)

The JSL translation project has been greatly blessed by the generosity of supporters who have been praying together for so long for this ministry to move forward and for the Deaf in Japan to have the Word of God in their own language. This month, the team has been able to source and purchase all the camera and computer equipment they need to replace the old, outdated, and/or broken ones they had been using at the office!

During these times of continuing uncertainty as COVID19 continues to keep Tokyo under lockdown, the team really values the encouragement of brothers and sisters overseas who are partnering with them in ministry. Thank you for your faithful prayers and generosity.

Translation Updates:

  • Speaking of Romans 8:
    • The translation plan has officially been amended to include chapters 1-8 in the current phase (instead of 1-7). Through working on the text, the team realized that chapter 7 naturally connects to chapter 8, so this amendment reflects a better spot to break up the text. As you may know, the original text of the Bible was not separated into the chapters and verses we know now, and it is important for the team to discern "chunks" in longer books to facilitate translation and checking.
  • Ezra 7-10
    • Fine-tuning the drafts based on feedback from Community Comprehension Checks
    • Hoping to film in the office again and prepare a clean draft for the next round of Community Checking at the end of June if State of Emergency lifts
  • Joshua 1-12
    • Currently working on 4th draft
    • Because ch1-6 and ch7-12 were drafted by two different translators simultaneously, the team is currently working together to make sure there are no inconsistencies in language between the two sections
    • Other team members are working on some animations and graphics that will be shown on screen to supplement the translation (think Study Bibles with pictures and maps!)
      • click here for an example of what that looked like when the team translated Exodus
  • Obadiah
    • 2nd round of revisions based on the consultant's feedback
    • the translator for this book is working remotely outside of Tokyo, so please pray for continued progress even over Zoom
We know that it has been a difficult and unpredictable season for the past year, and we are so thankful to have many of you who are following along with our newsletter and prayer calendar each month. Just knowing that there are people out there praying for this ministry is a big boost to the translation team.

If you have been considering giving financially to the ministry, a regular commitment would mean the team has just a little more certainty and stability in these uncertain times. Regular donors receive a video message directly from the team every quarter!

If you are in a position to make even a small donation each month, or if you think, "I'd like to buy coffee for the team every month" or "I'd love to treat the team to a pizza once a month" we invite you to partner with us in this way!
