Recently, the Vice President completed her time on Council. This also bought to an end her time on the Queensland State Committee which was over 16 years. Associate Professor Mundy has made an enormous contribution to surgery in Queensland and our College. 

We welcome two new members to the Queensland State Committee after the recent election. These members are: Dr Emilia Dauway and Dr Harsheet Sethi.

Digital Health Hybrid Meeting

The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, in collaboration with the Australian Digital Health Agency, is hosting a hybrid interactive 1-hour webinar session on a range of digital health tools to support specialist practitioners. Dr Kathy Rainbird will be the keynote presenter. You can attend online or in-person.

Webinar commences: 7pm
Venue: QLD State Office - Level 2, 59 - 69 Shafston Avenue, Kangaroo Point, QLD, 4169

Food and refreshments will be available from 6pm. There will be time allocated for questions and answers.

The 2021 State Conference
 
The State Conference will be held at Peppers Resort Noosa 20-21 November 2021. Please reserve the date in your calendar. It is anticipated that registration will open June 2021. Sessions will include the following:
  • Planning – QHealth/Directors of Surgery
  • KPI – QHealth /Directors of Surgery
  • Resources – theatre, anaesthetists, surgeons
  • Generalism in surgery – training/college
  • Trauma/Emergency Surgery
  • Rural issues - RACS Rural Health Equity Strategic Action Plan and SOSS Program
  • Medical students – work life balance versus acute surgery provision in the future
  • Trainees – fatigue, supervision, flexible training impacts strategy/supervision in training afterhours/quality
As is customary at the State Conference, we will have the David Theile Lecture which will be delivered by Dr Michael Wagels and a Dinner Speech from the Honoured Guest Dr Rosslyn Walker.

Digital Health & Aged Care Channels
 
The digital health and aged care channels are being upgraded to web services technology.
By 13 March 2022, web services compatible software will need to be used to access:
  • Medicare Online
  • Department of Veterans’ Affairs - via Medicare Online
  • Australian Immunisation Register - via Medicare Online
  • ECLIPSE
  • PBS Online
  • Aged Care web services
The above channels will also move from Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) security and be replaced with our authentication system called Provider Digital Access (PRODA).
 
What this means for you
You may need to register for Provider Digital Access (PRODA) and will need to have web services compatible software by 13 March 2022.

AIDA's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health in Clinical Practice

To support the implementation of the new RACS Cultural Competency, Cultural Safety 10th competency the Australian Indigenous Doctor’s Association (AIDA) Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health in Clinical Practice session is being run.

This session will be free to RACS Fellows and will be run by specialist educators from AIDA for a small group of RACS Fellows to provide you with an invaluable chance to learn about:

  • Racism and Cultural Safety 
  • Implementing a culturally safe health service
  • Practical engagement and communication.
Advanced Diagnostics and Physiological Monitoring in Critical Care
Symposium

You are invited to join the Inaugural Advanced Diagnostics and Physiological Monitoring in Critical Care (ADP-MoCC) Symposium which will be held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre (BCEC) on 6th and 7th August 2021.
 
This is a unique and first-of-its-kind symposium that focuses on diagnostic and monitoring aspects of critical care. It is organised by members of the Mater ICU team for critical care practitioners working in the intensive care units, high dependency units, operating theatres, emergency departments and other areas of the hospital.
