Hello, what's up, and welcome to the Lite + Brite newsletter.

Saturday is Juneteenth (soon to be a national holiday!), and Austin is celebrating with art, fireworks, a parade, blues and jazz, a Black history bike ride, and so much more. Sunday is Father's Day, which means an afternoon of stuff that some dads like, like live fire cooking and beard shaves. (I asked my dad if he liked live fire cooking and he said "what," so your personal dad mileage may vary.) And Monday is the summer solstice, which means a Midsummer witches' marketfree ice cream, and at long last it's officially summer in Austin so maybe it'll be hot out or something, who knows! Unrelated to any particular holidays, this weekend there will also be a Crab Ball and Crab Queen Pageant. We have no clue what that means, which is how we know it belongs in this newsletter. Also: have you ever considered making chess worse?

Let's do fun stuff!

DJ Stuff

Big news regarding No Lights No Lycra, our weekly dance party in the dark: Starting on Monday, July 12th (coincidentally Brian's birthday), and going every Monday thereafter (hopefully), we will return to in-person dancing! We'll be in the beautiful, spacious Great Hall at the West China Tea House. Details to come, but we are so excited to be back with you IRL. Mark your calendars now!

Until then, we're still streaming NLNL on Twitch Mondays at 8pm CT. This coming week, Leila will be in charge of the setlist while Brian's traveling, so expect lots of indiepop from circa 2007.

We're plotting more live and in-person dance parties for July besides NLNL, TBA soon. Watch this space...

Meanwhile, Brian's weekly radio show on the internet's most pee-adjacent radio station, KPISS, continues apace. No Humans Allowed took a road trip to the ocean this week with plenty of beachy tunes along the way. You can stream it on KPISS here.

What is No Lights No Lycra?
Austin's weekly judgment-free, substance-free, high-impact dance thing in the dark. We stream every Monday at 8pm CT. It's a DJ night that's not at the club, a workout that's not at the gym, a personal meditation that's anything but silent. Read more about us in the Austin Chronicle.

See what we're up to on Instagram

Last week brought us to the Almost Real Things party at TreeGarden, an all-vinyl night from two of our favorite DJs, and the new club Outer Heaven. Follow us on Instagram to keep up on our Austin adventures.
How do we choose which events to feature?
Honestly, it's pretty random. We might include anything in Austin that we, personally, would conceivably want to go to, generally excluding normal concerts, comedy shows, and movie showtimes because there are many other good resources for finding those. (We especially recommend Showlist for live music and dance.atx for DJs). This list is by no means exhaustive; it's just stuff that caught our eye this week. If you have an event that you want us to consider including, send it over.

Who are we?
We make this newsletter. We put on No Lights No Lycra each week. We do some other stuff here and there. We love going out to creative events in Austin, and we want you to join us. Visit us at liteandbriteatx.com.
SEE YOU NEXT WEEK, CHAMPIONS.
