Happy Pride Month!


Pride Month occurs annually in June and celebrates the LGBTQAI+ community. Pride Month is an opportunity to spread awareness, donate, educate yourself and others, and reflect on the community's many achievements over the years. 

On our website, you can find a number of useful resources for young people who are part of the LGBTQAI+ community, including mental health resources and youth groups.

Kickstart Scheme  


There are still internal Kickstart vacancies available for those who:
  • are aged 16-24 years 
  • are claiming Universal Credit
  • are referred to the employer by DWP (speak to your job coach regarding this)

Healthcare Careers Evening
This virtual careers evening will take place on 30 June via Zoom. The aim of this is to provide careers and training information around healthcare careers to young people aged 14-16 years. This may include areas such as dentistry, animal care, medicine and more. Click here to book a space

Supporting Year 11s with Interview Skills
AfC is offering a 1:1 mock interview for year 11s applying for employment, education or training. Provided by Gill Higgins, one of our 14-25 careers advisers, these sessions will take place virtually over the summer holidays for young people who may need help to develop interview skills and build their confidence. Written feedback will be included. If you are in year 11 or aged 16 and feel you might benefit from this offer, please email 14-25@achievingforchildren.org.uk and we will contact you to arrange a session.

YES Programme
The service provides personal support for Richmond and Kingston residents* aged 16-24 with SEND, who are not in employment education or training (NEET) and have social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. Young people using the service receive support from a Caseworker who provides information, advice and guidance including:
  • Confidence-building activities
  • Life skills support
  • Employability skills training
  • Access to meaningful work experience, volunteering and links to local employment and training opportunities.

The service is provided through a mix of one-to-one and group support. If you are interested in applying for this programme, please email krebp@achievingforchildren.org.uk

Summer Support Helpline On and After Results Days
The annual summer support helpline will be available from 16 August-31 August 2021 from 12pm-4pm, Monday to Friday. Two qualified careers advisors will be available to call for careers advice for both GCSE and A level/BTEC students, if their grades are not what they expected and they would like to discuss their options. Search for Jobs in the Arts
This site allows you to search for jobs within the Arts industry and refine your searches by location, salary and artform. You can filter your options between a range of artforms, such as combined arts, literature, film, dance, museums and many more. You can take a look at this here

"Why Should We Hire You?"
This article talks about one of the most daunting interview questions, "why should we hire you?", and aims to help you prepare for it. There are a few sample answers you can look through which may give you a better idea on how to word your answer, as they are paired with short descriptions on why these answers work. Apprentice Chef - Level 2
Browns Brasserie are searching for an apprentice to join their staff and maintain a positive attitude amongst staff and clients. They are looking for someone who is proud of their work, able to maintain a clean and hygienic workspace, organsied, and able to prepare high quality dishes. You do not need any qualifications to apply for this role. This Kingston-based role will close on 1 July, so to apply click here


Apprentice Digital Marketer - Level 3 
Queens English Language School in Kingston are searching for a keen young person to join their team and maintain the school's online presence as well as furthering your knowledge of social media and digital marketing. This role closes 30 June, so you can apply here


Apprentice Lifeguard - Level 2 
Virgin Active LTD in Twickenham are looking to recruit a skilled swimmer with an interest in fitness to begin their apprenticeship. Daily tasks will involve ensuring the safety of all member in the swimming pool, maintenance of the area, regular checks such as taps and storage, and supporting the club with additional activities. Apprentice Plumber - Level 3
Frank Finn LTD are promoting their apprenticeship vacancy. They are looking for someone who is able to work around deadlines, commited to the job and able to work both independently and within a team. The office is based in Twickenham, however the apprentice may be working either inside or outside of properties. Frank Finn LTD will stop accepting applications on 3 September. You can apply here.

Traineeship spotlight


Fashion Retail Academy Traineeship
The new traineeship with Fashion Retail Academy offers a variety of employability support amongst a number of industry learning opportunities - including an all-expenses-paid work experience placement. To apply, you must be aged between 16-18 years, qualified below level 3, and keen to learn more about the fashion retail industry. To register your interest, click here

Brentford FC Traineeship
Brentford FC are recruiting trainees to join their 12-week traineeship. This will consist of 15 hours per week on a work placement, 12 hours of employability per week, and 3 hours of maths and English per week. This traineeship is open to anyone who is aged 16-18 years; is not in education, employment or training; and has not been in education for 6 weeks or longer since the start of the current academic year. NEW Prevista Traineeship Opportunities
Prevista have announced their new traineeship opportunities for 16-24 year olds, including industries such as TV, creative media, fashion business and many more. This programme offers employability training and the option to complete your English and maths functional skills. ENGAGE
ENGAGE is a training course offered by Harlequins Foundation to young people who are NEET (not in education, employment or training) and aged between 16-24. This course offers the opportunity to complete functional skills qualifications or receive additional tuition without the exams awaiting at the end, all whilst undertaking employability training.
