What's New

This week we’re introducing a new eclectic shop in BK, highlighting a few ways for you to celebrate & recognize Juneteenth, and sharing our favorite spots to hit during a day in the Upper East Side.

Culture Corner

COOL NEW THING
The best spots in Bushwick are the unexpected ones. We love how La Cantine is inside of an old bodega, and how Syndicated’s interiors are very different from what you see outside. The new to the neighborhood spot, Wine O’Clock does just the same. The eclectic home goods shop (selling everything but the wine) is inside of an old Bushwick nail salon and it couldn’t be more perf.

LOOK
New gallery show alert*** One of our fave galleries in Meatpacking, Hesse Flatow, has a new exhibition we can’t wait to see for ourselves. The show features Carl D’Alvia’s large scale sculptures that feel like a 2D paper collage came to life. Stop by the gallery Tues-Sat but don’t forget to make an apt b4 u go!

SHOP
Lagoon, a new independent clothing, art, and design shop in Bed Stuy will be kicking off their grand opening with a Summer solstice party! Stop by next Sunday, June 20th for live music, an art show, and of course COOL GOODIES!

SUPPORT
As New York continues to open up and Juneteenth (finally) becomes a recognized holiday, we’ve got a few ways for you to show up and support this weekend:

The Lot Radio at the Library of Performing Arts
If you’ve ever walked past the north side of McCarren and thought, “is that amazing music coming from that vacant lot?” then you’re probably aware of online radio The Lot Radio. This Saturday from 11:30am to 4pm at Lincoln Center, The Lot Radio will be spinning a mix of music and spoken word that celebrates Black culture and reflects on the meaning of Black freedom. If you can’t make it, the event will be streamed online here.

Black Creatives + Culture Market
Popping up both Saturday & Sunday at Albee Square in Downtown Brooklyn, this free marketplace and festival will feature products from over 40 Black, Indigenous, and POC-owned brands as well as live music and community-building workshops.

SNACK
One of our favorite indulgences is Bonbon, a Swedish candy company in the LES. Well, the irresistible gummy treats will soon be available in Williamsburg starting 6/14 for pickup and delivery! Learn how to order here.

POP UP
Next week is the last week to shop the Ciao Lucia pop-up in the LES. Head to the temp spot to shop for everything you need for a Summer vacation on the coast of Italy.

Neighborhood Guide:
Upper East Side

Ah, the Upper East Side...a fabled neighborhood that is well known for old money, Gossip Girl, and grandparents, BUT it’s much much more than all that. The UES is where we love to go for a nostalgic taste of old New York, delicious diner food, and strong drinks before taking advantage of the many galleries and museums the neighborhood has to offer. Read all about it here.

Ps. a big thanks to 2 of our favorite (former) Upper East Siders, Rebecca Schneider and Sara Wynn who sent us some of their favorites from their new homes of the West Village and Pairs, respectively.
