Bishop and diocesan leaders condemn violence against Asian Americans
In case you missed it, Bishop Lucinda Ashby and the leadership bodies of the diocese issued a statement of solidarity with the AAPI community condemning all violent acts and discrimination and calling for justice. The statement notes that God loves all people equally and that Jesus had a special ministry with those who were marginalized. Bishop poses for official portrait
Bishop Lucinda and diocesan staff roamed downtown Monterey and Lovers Point Beach in Pacific Grove last week in the quest for her official portrait, delayed for more than a year by the pandemic. The weather was spectacular and photographer Larry Nordwick (brother of Brian Nordwick) snapped dozens of amazing pictures to consider. Real Episcopal magazine now in production
The summer issue of the diocesan magazine, Real Episcopal, is now in production and is expected to reach mailboxes in the first week of July. The cover story explores how the congregations of El Camino Real have changed and adapted to the COVID-19 pandemic, and how they are preparing for the future. Another feature covers the creation of the diocese's groundbreaking "Pilgrimage with Race" video interview series, plus news photos and a thank you to Bishop's Annual Appeal donors.
Latest "Pilgrimage with Race" video is available
The seventh stage of “A Storied Pilgrimage with Race” is available to view at the Pilgrimage with Race page on the diocesan website. Elrond Lawrence interviews Aldo Jarvio, parishioner and youth director at St. Paul's, Salinas, about his life, his family's history, and his experiences with race. The Pilgrimage uses personal video interviews supported by education materials, action items, and reflections to engage conversation; completion will fulfill the requirement for anti-racism training.
Peace Post installation in Carmel
All Saints' Church in Carmel and All Saints Day School celebrated and installed three peace posts in the church gardens on June 2. The peace posts have been a year-long project between the church and the school, designed as a sacred space that is easily accessible in the church’s gardens that bring comfort, compassion, and commemorate the more than 600,000 people who have died in the US from the COVID-19 pandemic. BBQ chicken dinner event at Good Shepherd
Good Shepherd, Salinas, is hosting its annual Brusa BBQ chicken dinner Saturday, July 10 in response to popular demand. The BBQ dinner includes 1/2 chicken, homemade beans, salad and garlic bread. Pick-up will be available between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm at 301 Corral De Tierra Road, off Hwy 68 between Monterey & Salinas. Tickets are $20 and available in advance at the Good Shepherd website.

Real Episcopal is published on the first, third and fifth Thursday of the month. News and event submissions must be received by 12 pm noon on the Friday before publication date. Please limit submissions to 150 words in text format (unless agreed to in advance) and include the "who-what-where-when-why" information in the first paragraph.
Photos are welcome. Please send jpeg files with a minimum size of 1100 pixels wide (for phone images, select "original size" when sending).
EVENTS: Announcements must be in text form, no more than 100 words,and must be accompanied by a link to a web page with full information (flyers may be included with submission). All submissions will be edited for clarity and space needs. Church-specific event submissions will appear in no more than three issues per event.
