June 25-September 25

We want to be a church that sees every neighborhood in Pierce County engaged by believers and transformed by Jesus. The only way that can happen is if we commit to being  present in and serving the tangible needs in our communities! Summer of Serving is one way we hope to help make this happen.
All-Church Goal: 800 Hours of Service!
As a church, we want to reach 800 hours, or more, of serving our communities this summer. That may sound like a lot, but it has the potential to add up pretty quickly. For example, if a family of four went into their neighborhood and picked up trash for an hour, that would count as four service hours because it’s per person serving.

Family of 4 + Serves for 1 Hour = 4 Hours of Serving

Our Summer of Serving will begin this Friday and will culminate with Serve Sunday on September 26. On that Sunday, after we finish our Serve Sunday projects, we hope to gather around a dunk tank to dunk six of our pastors.

Here's how it will work:
1) We will keep a running tally on this page of how many hours we've served.
2) When we reach 800 hours, we'll rent a dunk tank for September 26 to dunk six of the RVCC staff.
3) The people with the most hours served will have the privilege of doing the dunking (or choosing proxy dunkers).

Saturday, June 26
begins at 6:00pm at RVCC Parkland
Though this travelling scavenger hunt is hosted by RVCC Student and Kids Ministries, you do not need to have kids to join this event, just a car, willingness to be goofy, and at least a bit of competitive spirit.

Registration closes on 6/22 for Graham
August 2-6 at RVCC Parkland
Very Best Summer VBS will remind each child that their confidence is in Jesus. Kids 3 years through 5th grade will enjoy a time packed with friends, worship, crafts, and Bible lessons!

July 19-23
6:00-9:00pm at RVCC Graham
Charge Week is for all 6-12 grade students (and their friends!) If students want even more fun, we will also have two daytime events at Defy Tacoma and Tower Lanes Tacoma.

Friday, August 13
7:00pm at RVCC Graham
This is for families and people of all ages! We will open the parking lot at 7:00pm for desserts and yard games, and the movie will begin at sundown. We'll provide an ice cream sundae bar, popcorn, and water, but movie goers will need to bring their own chairs and blankets.
In 2015 we participated in a church plant in Gig Harbor, led by James Floyd. After serving on our student ministries staff, James was our Parkland Campus Pastor and one of our teaching pastors prior to the move across the bridge to begin Intrepid Christian Church. Now the time has come for James, his wife Kristy, and their two kids JJ and Jovie, move on and we want to let you know how you can pray for them. James has accepted the position as the senior pastor of Shiloh Community Church near Grand Rapids, Michigan, which will place them much closer to Kristy’s parents and extended family for the first time. Intrepid will continue, and will work with the Christian Evangelistic Association to find their next lead pastor.

Pray with us for the Floyds as they share their final Sunday with Intrepid on June 27 and as they load their moving truck the next day to begin the next part of their journey. Pray for Intrepid, that they will quickly find their next lead pastor, and continue fruitful ministry among the people of Gig Harbor.
MAKING A DIFFERENCE!
Volunteer Spotlight
We are so grateful for our volunteers, and want to do better at giving shout outs to those who are making a difference at RVCC. This month we want to highlight somebody who has helped us make a comeback from months of having our doors closed. Ross Tietje has long been a volunteer at RVCC, but after retiring in mid-2020, he has even more generously given his time to rebuild a riding lawn mower, three push mowers, and the industrial coffee maker at RVCC Parkland. He's also repaired a washing machine, joined our mowing team, done some plumbing repairs, and pressure washed our parking lots. Thank you, Ross, for seeing the need and stepping in to so willingly share your time and skills!

Appointed To Bear Fruit: A 90-Day Journey

Beginning July 7, we invite you to join us in this 90-day Summer reading plan. Understanding and meditating on Jesus' teaching and prayers in the Upper Room (John 13-17) the night before He was crucified will reveal God's purpose for you and inspire you to take part in what He's doing. Join us and allow the Holy Spirit to lead you to a life with Jesus that will release unspeakable joy.

We would like to thank Partners International for providing this plan. For more information, please visit partnersintl.org.
YOUR Generosity is Making a Difference!

We got an email in early May that made us smile...

I am writing to let you know that we nominated you to receive a FPS Community Partner Award through WASA, the state superintendent association. Y’all have been phenomenal this year as we navigated challenges with COVID. Your willingness to be creative and flexible with Winterfest was amazing and your stepping up to assist with the childcare situation is an incredible gift for FPS students and families...

Incredibly grateful,
Joel (on behalf of the FP crew)

We've known Joel Zystra, the writer of that email, from our early days of partnering with Winterfest, an annual Pacific Lutheran University (PLU) event that provides for under-resourced families at Christmas. At the time, Joel was the Director for Community Engagement for PLU. Having a history together has made it even easier to serve our local schools when he made the move to become the Public Information Officer for the Franklin Pierce School District.

It's your consistent and generous giving that has allowed us to say "Yes" when  our school districts approach us with needs, and every time we say "Yes" we're making a difference in our communities. This Community Partner Award is yours as much as it is ours. Way to go, Church!

Don’t Press Pause…

Summer in PNW is here and it shows! Since when do we get temperatures close to 100 degrees in June?! But as school is out, the days are nice, and we’re opening up after 15 months of restricted travel, it’s time for some much-needed travel for many of our families.

At RVCC we believe strongly in renewal, replenishment, and the rhythms of rest. As you journey this summer making memories, adventuring, visiting friends and family, please remember that ministry continues. In fact, some of our most important ministry happens in the summer for some departments and resourcing those ministries is vital.

As you pause your mail delivery, garbage pickup, package arrivals, and other services, please don’t pause your generosity to the church! Most churches experience a ‘summer slump’ in giving because of a decrease in attendance and an increase in traveling and vacations. What if we were an exception to that rule? If you’ve been looking for the right time to sign up for recurring giving, this might be it. Quite frankly, in today’s culture we automate what we prioritize. Your committed, regular, and automated giving might be the discipline that’s needed to clarify your priorities and give to God what He already owns!

Pray for the Linington
& Neeley Families

Lew Linington, a long-time member of RVCC, passed away on June 15, 2021. He was 77 years old and married to his wife, Jackie, for 48 years. We do not have details for a memorial service, but ask you to pray for the family, including Lew's wife, Jackie, his daughter Erin, and Erin's family who all also attend RVCC Graham.
