Practical Tips for Busy Children's Leaders

Using All Your Time

Children do not always arrive to class all at the same time. However, that time while they arrive does not need to be “wasted time”! Instead, turn it into a productive, meaningful time to begin to focus their minds on the lesson to come.

Welcoming the Children

Think of games or stations you could have around the classroom for the children to engage with as they enter for the program. Tie these games or activities into the theme of the lesson for the day. For instance, if you will be talking about creation, you can have a “playing with water” station, a “playing with sand” station, and a “playing with play doh” (where the kids can model animals or Adam and Eve).

Don’t simply allow the children to play at the various stations, though. Use this time for the teachers/leaders to engage with the children – interact with them, play with them, and build relationships with them. Focus the conversation on what they’re doing and how it will tie into the day’s lesson.
