Fall Semester starts on 9/11/2021 for Saturday classes and 9/12/2021 for Sunday classes, and ends on 1/23/2022.

The program runs various fundraising events, such as bake sale, talent show, tennis tournament, culture fair, dance party, etc. to raise funds for underprivileged students in rural areas in China and to help students with academic/extra-curriculum need locally.  In April spring break, a group of NCLS students will go to China and bring the funds to the scholarship recipients. They will visit the recipients’ families and participate cultural activities with Chinese students. Covid-19 disrupted 2021 SEP’s activities and prevented the trip to China. However, in these challenging times, help and support could be needed and appreciated more than ever. Students here and in China could continue to learn from each other and support each other in different ways, including but not limited to, online communication and cultural exchanges, and in-person visit situation permitting. We welcome NCLS students 8th grade and above to join SEP team for 2021-2022.

Math Teachers We’d Like to Have:
NCLS math department offers Singapore math (K-9), AoPs math, competition math, and standardized test math preparation. NCLS is now hiring all levels of math teachers, including high school, middle school, elementary school, and substitute math teachers.

Responsibilities:

• Teach mathematics at elementary, middle or high school level in English
• Develop and administer assessments (quizzes, midterm test, and final test)
• Communicate with parents about students’ performance and progress via email and/or WeChat
• Communicate with school administration to discuss students’ progress and classroom management
• Attend workshops/training sessions organized/recommended by the school
• Teach at NCLS for at least one school year, follow school’s rules and regulations

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or related field
• Master’s degree in Education (preferred)
• Solid mathematical knowledge and excellent logic thinking ability
• Minimum one year of math teaching or tutoring experience
• Passionate about teaching and love working with kids
• Fluency in English, ability and desire to make math fun for students
• Online teaching experience with Zoom or Google Meet preferred
• Excellent team player

Requirements：

• Passionate teachers in programming and web development
• Able to teach computer courses to young students (10 - 17 yrs. old), including: HTML, CSS, bootstrap, JavaScript, Java, PyGame, Scratch…
• Excellent communication skills, patience with young students and a strong commitment to educating children and delivering high quality enrichment
• Ability to interact positively with parents, staff and students
• Industrial or teaching experience is a plus
• MS in Computer Science or a related field

Dear NCLS community,

To conform the School's Bylaws to the standard MA nonprofit corporation Bylaws format, the Board, with the help of our school's legal counsel, has revised the current Bylaws.  The Amended and Restated Bylaws:

- Will be filed with the MA Secretary of State, Corporation Division.
- Conform to the MA nonprofit corporation Bylaws standard format.
- Clarify the School has no "members" as this term is used in the Massachusetts nonprofit corporation law. It is very common for nonprofits that have a large or shifting number of "participants", such as NCLS, to organize as a non-membership organization.
- add a more protective indemnification provision allowing directors and officers to be indemnified by the School for actions that they take in good faith.  
- Remove all language that would not be customarily found in By-laws.
- add standard language for nonprofit corporations that are 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations.

The Board has approved the Amended and Restated Bylaws.  For any questions regarding the Restated Bylaws, please email board@newtonchineseschool.org.  The final pass of the  Amended and Restated Bylaws will be approved and announced at the year end school meeting.

This is a reminder that the 30^th Annual All-American Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Competition deadline is Tuesday 06-15-2021 , that is the date we have to receive all the entries, not the postmark date of mailing. Please allow extra time for delivery services and wave the signature from the recipient.

The jury date is Saturday 06-26-2021.

The results will be announced via email a few days after. We will try our best to return the entries as soon as possible, however, this year it will be slow due to facility restriction and safety regulations that will affect the time needed for mounting and photograph of the winners' art works. The contact person information of each school or studio is very important. The competition guidelines in both Chinese and English are posted at:

Eligibility:

All US students (age 22 and under), regardless of ethnic origin,  are eligible.

There are four age groups: 9 and under, 10-13, 14-17, 18-22.

The participant's age refers to his/her birthday on the deadline, 06-15 in 2021. 參賽學生的年齡是依截止日來計算.

No entry fee. $7 handling fee for EACH piece that needs to be returned.

Awards: Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Honor prizes will be awarded to each group. Gold prizewinner will receive $100 in cash. The winners' artwork will be displayed on our website.
