Opportunity for Bangladeshi Community to Take Part in Public Health Arts Projects in Birmingham

Public Health are commissioning a series of projects with, and for, the Bangladeshi community in Birmingham. These will be a blend of Arts, Culture and Health to focus on: mental health; diabetes; cardiovascular diseases; musculoskeletal diseases; or pregnancy.

Isolation Support Pilot

Birmingham City Council is interested in hearing from potential community partners who would carry out the following pilot from July to Sep 2021.

This Funding opportunity is for community organisations who can support in Handsworth Wood and Shard End.
Deadline: Midday Monday 21st June.

BSOL C-19  Vaccination Programme - Walk-in Weekend – 18-20 June

As you will no doubt be aware there is significant pressure to vaccinate as many people as possible before mid-July to enable restrictions to be safely lifted. BSOL has had huge successes over recent week with mobile units and walk-in slots, therefore in order to capitalise on this we are holding a big Walk-in Weekend, this weekend 18-20 June.

NHS England have advised this approach is a key part of the strategy going forward and as such will be encouraging all systems to open up walk-in clinics over the next two weeks.
From Friday the cohorts will open to all over 18s.

New C-19 Self Isolation Support Pack available from Public Health Birmingham

This Support Pack has been created by Birmingham Public Health and can be downloaded from the Birmingham City Council website. This is a guide to help people through their self-isolation period. The pack outlines what someone should do if they need to isolate and includes key information on how to access financial and mental health support.  Public Health would be grateful if you can help to share this with your networks.  Printed copies can be provided at request, contact COVID19CommunityChampions@birmingham.gov.uk.

Funding Opportunities
Made By Sport: #ClubsInCrisis Fund
The purpose of the fund is to support small grassroots community organisations working with young people who use sport as a tool to achieve wider social outcomes. The organisations we are looking for operate mostly in disadvantaged communities, often working collaboratively with other partners to meet local need, and may offer cross-sector activities.

£2m more for loneliness projects from Local Connections Fund
From 28 June grassroots charities and community groups tackling loneliness in England will be able to apply for a share of £2 million of National Lottery funding to support their work. This second round of funding will be used to fund hundreds of microgrants between £300 – £2,500. It will be available to community groups with an annual income of less than £50,000.

BBC Children in Need Emergency Essentials Programme
This fund supports children and young people who are facing exceptionally difficult circumstances, and is delivered by Family Fund Business Services. The programme provides items that meet a child’s most basic needs such as a bed to sleep in, a cooker to provide a hot meal and other items or services critical to a child’s wellbeing.

Support Adoption for Pets Grant Programme
Pet rescue organisations can apply for funding to help support rescues throughout the short- and medium-term impact of the pandemic. Through the Support Adoption for Pets Grant Programme, charities and not-for-profit organisations which rescue and rehome pets or provide temporary support to ensure pets can remain with their owners can apply for funding or up to 30% of total annual expenditure, whichever is the lower amount.

Grants available for risk education & climate change projects
Insurer RSA has launched a £250,000 grant programme to support charities that are working to improve risk education, as well as those helping to tackle climate change and environmental related issues. The programme, managed by giving platform Neighbourly, is open to applications from registered charities, community groups and community interest companies until 2 July 2021, and RSA plans to send grants of up to £10,000 to successful applicants by the end of July 2021.

Do it Now Now
Grants are available to UK based Black-led organisations working in communities that have been disproportionately impacted by C-19. The funding is being made available by Do it Now Now’s Common Call grants programme and is specifically aimed at supporting charities and social enterprises led by people that identify as Black or Mixed with Black. Priority will be given to organisations led by people with lived experience and that are creating impact in underserved communities and providing services to people that have been adversely affected by the pandemic crisis in terms of physical health, mental health and/or financial sustainability. The deadline for applications is 5pm on the 25th June 2021.

The Birmingham Healthy City Planning Toolkit is now out for consultation until the 30th June 2021. We want the people of Birmingham, strategic partners, and key agencies to let us know if they support the toolkit approach, and to help us to understand whether it presents barriers or opportunities for creating a city that improves health and well-being.

Birmingham-based domestic abuse charity Women Acting in Today’s Society (WAITS) has welcomed international lawyer Madeleine Rees OBE as their new patron. Madeleine is current Secretary General of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF), the worldwide organisation that aims to bring women together to oppose war, violence and global militarisation.
