Greetings Holy Spirit Parish!

Welcome to the Fifteenth Week in Ordinary Time!

Please read the following information carefully this week as we have a great deal of information to share!
PARISH BULLETIN

IT'S TIME!!!!!!!
The moment we've ALL been waiting for … effective the weekend of July 31/August 1st, the tape comes down! We will officially open the parish sites, including gathering spaces and halls, completely!

This includes the following:
  • All Mass ministries will return including Sacristans, Altar Servers, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, Cantors/Musicians, Ushers and Greeters
  • Holy Water fonts will be filled and usable
  • Missals will be placed back into pews
  • Offertory collections will resume by Ushers
  • Communion procession will resume (species of bread only)
  • Cleaning protocols will cease
  • Bulletins will be distributed by Ushers
  • Calendar events and parish meetings will begin to resume including faith sharing groups, That Man is You (resumes in September), Donut Sunday -- please refer to the link to the Parish Calendar below for all of the updates on meetings and events.
The staff will use the next few week's to prepare our sites and communicate our need for ministers at Masses. This means we need YOU! Mass ministries are an integral part of our liturgies and we simply cannot offer all of our Masses without these very important roles. 

As a worshiping community we are all called to actively participate in our liturgies through song, prayer, silence, and action. Service in one of our Liturgical (mass) ministries is an excellent way to fulfill our baptismal call of service to one another. Whether participation is through “behind the scenes” preparation and planning, or through a public role of service within the Mass, your contributions help our liturgies to be truly life-giving celebrations. Please come back to the ministries you served in prior to the pandemic or prayerfully consider joining one of our many ministries (listed above)! 

AUGUST FAITH ENRICHMENT
As we begin to find normalcy again in our parish we will begin to offer a plethora of ways to enrich your faith! Mark your calendars now for these wonderful opportunities:
  • Virtual Morning Prayer, every Monday through Friday, via our YouTube channel. Available beginning at 6:00am.
  • Sunday Holy Hour and Night Prayer, 7:00pm, Sacred Heart Church*, August 8, 15, 22 & 29.
  • Monday Movie Night, The CHOSEN Series (Season One), 7:00pm, SH Kriebs Hall, August 2, 9, 16, 23, 30. Popcorn and refreshments will be offered.
  • Thursday Evening Holy Hour & Rosary, 7:30pm, Sacred Heart Church*, August 5, 12, 19.
  • Saturday Morning Faith Formation Sessions, 9:30am, Sacred Heart Church*, four sessions, August 7, 14, 21 & 28. Details on sessions to come.
  • Married Couples Enrichment Meal & Session, 6:00pm, Holy Ghost Paraclete Hall, August 6 & 20. Includes meal and refreshments, no cost. Details on sessions to come.
*event will be livestreamed for our homebound and nursing home members
 
TUITION GRANT APPLICATION -- Due July 15th!
There is still time to submit your application for tuition assistance from the parish for families who have children who attend Holy Family Catholic Schools. Click here to complete your application online!

FLEA MARKET -- Call for Volunteers!
The Flea Market is just a couple weeks away and the volunteers are working hard setting up, organizing, and pricing all of the amazing finds we have been collecting over the last two years. With the overabundance of items the team could use some help with set-up this week and next or on July 17th & 18th as cashiers, floor workers, or with carry outs. If you couple spare some time to help the team to make this market a success, please contact Dave at 563.583.2642.
 
SCRIP
SCRIP orders will be accepted beginning next Monday, July 12th! 
You may purchase SCRIP by calling the parish office during office hours and scheduling a pick-up --> click here for an order form. Simply print the form, complete your order, and bring it to the parish office on Monday morning. SCRIP can also be purchased online; simply send an email to HSPscrip@gmail.com to set-up an online account.

Dear All, 
 
I hope this email or letter finds you and your family in good health! What a blessing to be able to come together to celebrate Mass for the continuation of Ordinary Time on Independence Day! Thank you all for your continued service!

Growing our Liturgical Ministries
As we look forward to the end of our pandemic restrictions and re-summing our ministries, beginning the weekend of July 31st/August 1st, we are excited to announce that we are opening the church to full seating and the return of full ministries. We are in need of more volunteers for the following ministries: sacristans, servers, along with the ongoing ministries. Please take some time to pray about whether or not volunteering your time for any ministry would be of interest to you or a way for you to share your gifts of time and talent. If interested, need more information, or if you have any questions, please contact our Director of Worship, Patrick Jekanowski, DBQ059S@dbqarch.org or (563), 583-1709, ext.313. 
 
Schedules
Copies of the schedule may be found in the church sacristies, and the parish website under the Ministry-MSP-Schedules. To those without access to the internet I will be mailing out hard copies; everyone please let me know if you ever want a hard copy and I will send them to you.
 
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
For those who did not attend the meeting but are still willing to serve, Father Steve still has to give you the commission blessing in person and have a quick conversation. This may be done before or after Mass on the weekend, or during the week. Please let us know what day/time option works best for you. After this blessing we will get you the official certificate. Father Steve will attend the Sacred Heart and Holy Trinity Masses this weekend, July 10-11th. Thank you!

Reflection | Fifteenth Week in Ordinary Time

The readings for this weekend all talk about a call from God given first to Amos in the Old Testament and then to the apostles by Jesus in the Gospel.

Amos was not a professional prophet; rather he was shepherd and a tree trimmer. In a sense this allowed Amos the freedom he needed to speak on behalf God. Unlike Amaziah, the priest who was on the king’s payroll, Amos spoke forthrightly against the injustices he saw perpetrated upon those who went without while others lived with much. Amos’s livelihood did not prevent him from speaking the truth. As we heard in last weekend’s scriptures. It takes a lot of courage to speak the truth and at times even more courage to hear the truth. Have you ever felt called to speak the truth in a situation where you believed there was injustice present?

In the Gospel, Jesus sends out the apostles, telling them to take nothing with them. He seems to be saying: “Let God’s presence be enough for you.” Do not misplace your trust in material possessions or money. God will provide what you need. Frequently, we may find it a real test of faith to place our trust in God, or we may see it as a last resort when all else fails. Yet, Jesus invites us to trust in Him from the beginning. In sending the apostles out in pairs, Jesus speaks about a reality of our faith. We need never go the road alone. Rather the very nature of our faith requires us to share it with others. We need that support. Faith is not just between me and God, it is about us. Our faith at its root communitarian. We walk together. Our faith when shared is strengthened and supported.

In today’s world, who are the ones called to minister in the name of Jesus? Through our baptism, we are all called to participate in the “priesthood of all believers.” Some years ago a book was published entitled “The Collaborative Leader: Listening to the Wisdom of God’s People.” It was the result of a study of 42 people who others identified as being good ministers and full of wisdom. All were lay persons: 31 Catholics and 11 from other Christian denominations. The characteristics that were common among them included: integrity (people compelled to do the right thing); generativity (people motivated by a concern for others); and a unique motivation that was rooted in a deep religious faith and personal spirituality. These folks exhibited good listening skills with a non-judgmental attitude. They are described as people with good empathy skills who can feel the pain of another person. These people were beauticians, mechanics, farmers, nurses, teachers, salespersons, and laborers. They were not professional church workers. They were all willing to trust God and share that trust with one another. This is the kind of mission to which we are all called. Who are the wisdom people you know who exhibit God’s love in your life? Is there anyone who would name you as that person?

Saint VeronicaO My Jesus, Saint Veronica served You on the way to Calvary by wiping
Your beloved face with a towel on which Your sacred image then appeared. She protected this treasure, and whenever people touched it, they were  miraculously healed. I ask her to pray for the growth of my ability to see Your sacred image in others, to recognize their hurts, to stop and join them on their difficult journeys, and to feel the same compassion for them as she did for You. Show me how to wipe their faces, serve their needs, and heal their wounds, reminding me that as I do this for them, I also do this for You. Saint Veronica, pray for me.
