Virtual residential
Time and space are the most valuable gifts we can give. This summer, instead of our special leadership residential, we've created a virtual experience that everyone can benefit from.
It's not the same as our usual weekend at Ardoch by Loch Lomond, but it's a gift of valuable time and space: take a breath and explore it here.

Strategy spotlight
This is a year of strategic development and change. There's no point waiting to see what the future holds, however tempting that may seem. Strategy isn't about certainty.

Sustainable organisations know that strategy walks on two feet: one deliberate, the other emergent. They get on the front foot, stepping towards the future with a clear intent. In 2021, we've already helped 12 charities to do just this. We'll showcase different examples throughout the year and on the Wren and Greyhound website. This month, the focus is community justice.

Sacro will launch a new strategy to coincide with their 50th birthday later this year. Project 50 took a creatively inclusive approach, giving everyone in the 'Sacro family' a say in the strategy's development. More importantly, it gives them a stake in its success. When the strategy goes live, it will belong to the people it matters to most.

Partnership approaches: joining the dots for sector surival
With weekly reports about the reputational, financial and existential threats facing the sector, it's understandable to feel overwhelmed. Thankfully, it's also easy to take action.
As they say, it's better to light a candle than to curse the darkness. Here are some of the wonderful people sharing the light with others.

The Gannochy Trust: Supporting sector sustainability with a tailored action learning programme for 12 charities working in Perth and Kinross. Importantly, learning is also being shared publicly, good practice that all funders could follow.
Cumbria CVS 'Bedrock Basics' programme: Strengthening and sustaining local capacity with accessible workshops on business planning and strategy.
Action Together: Using the Lasting Difference toolkit with local organisations, supporting stronger communities in Oldham, Rochdale and Tameside.
Community Action Suffolk: Incorporating Lasting Difference ideas into an already creative and comprehensive suite of sustainability support.
Voluntary Action North Lanarkshire: One of this year's new Symbol holders, providing action learning programmes to build capacity with peer support.
