to the First Day of School - August 4th!
The start of school is just around the corner, and we couldn't be more excited to welcome you and your family back to Liberty!
We want to provide you with current information on the start of school. Liberty Elementary School District is offering two options for student learning next year: In-Person Learning and Remote Learning. Both options are intended to be a year-long placement. All children will be automatically placed in an In-Person Learning classroom unless parents have completed the form to select Remote Learning. If you are interested in Remote Learning and have not yet enrolled, please click here. Space is limited and is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Our Governing Board and administration are committed to optimizing learning and keeping learning as consistent as possible for our children. In May, the Board voted to make masks optional, and in early June, the Board approved other mitigation strategies for next school year so that parents would know what to expect. As much as possible, our schools are returning to pre-COVID operations. However, we will continue to keep students within cohorts and maintain cleaning and handwashing protocols. Our district is still required to follow Arizona Department of Health quarantine and isolation guidelines when students are exposed. Please click here for more information on mitigation strategies.

More than ever, our teachers will be keenly focused on accelerating children’s learning to ensure all children are on track for success. Over the summer, we offered extended Summer Labs for Kindergarten through 3rd grade students. We will continue to offer tutoring and other interventions for K-8 children who need targeted support.
You can expect to see first-hand our district values of excellence, innovation, equity, collaboration, grit, and integrity as we demonstrate with our actions our continued commitment to an exemplary education for your child as well as your child’s health and safety. School Construction Update
Blue Horizons, the district’s newest elementary school, will be completed in two phases. One classroom wing, an administrative building and library, as well as a multipurpose room will be ready for the first day of school. Take a look at this picture of the front canopy along the student-drop off driveway outside of the multipurpose room.
Liberty Rebuild is nearing completion. Shown here is a picture of Building C interior for primary students. The yellow, green, and blue carpeted areas in this hallway are extended classroom spaces offering flexibility for learning and small group activities.
Summer Learning Lab
In June, 78 Liberty School District students attended K-1 Summer Learning Lab taught by 17 teachers. These dedicated teachers combined fun and a focus on early literacy skills utilizing our new supplemental phonics adoption, Reading Horizons. Our Summer learning Lab approach was very strategic. Teachers planned as a team with the reading interventionists to target specific skills to support precisely what each child needed for success.
We are celebrating that in 16 short days, 70% of our kindergarten and 1st grade students increased their ability to segment sounds in words and fluently blend and read words, providing them with a great jump start for the new year. Even maintaining skills from the prior year is important to avoid summer learning loss. Keep up reading with your kids this summer and all year long. It makes all the difference.
COVID-19 Vaccinations Available, but not Required for Ages 12+
The Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccination has received Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) from the FDA for use in individuals ages 12-15 years. In Arizona, consent for minors to be vaccinated is required by at least 1 (one) parent or guardian, in-person, AND verbal affirmation of child’s age 12+. No other personal identification is required. NOTE: Fully immunized students do not need to quarantine if exposed and are not exhibiting COVID-like symptoms.
According to Pfizer, vaccines for children ages 2-11 years are projected to be available this September.
Your Choice on Masks
Whether students are in dance class, in the classroom studying, or outside on the swings, masks are optional in Liberty Schools. Make the decision that is best for your family and child.
How do School District Budgets Work? Come to Our Meeting to Find Out
Come to a special event to learn more about school funding and budgets. If you have questions about how your tax funds are used or how the state budget impacts education, this community discussion event will allow you to ask these questions and more. Information will be shared with examples specific to the Liberty Elementary School District. We welcome your questions, ideas, and suggestions.

At 12 years old, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends COVID-19 vaccination to help protect against COVID-19 (two doses of vaccine). COVID-19 vaccine and other vaccines may be given to your child on the same day.
If you haven’t scheduled an appointment, there is still time before the start of school. Afterwards, please provide your school nurse with your updated immunization records.
What is KidsCare?
Arizona offers a program called KidsCare for children under age 19 whose parents work but cannot afford private health insurance. The application is quick and easy to fill out. No interview is required.
Applications for KidsCare and help filling them out are available at school offices. Proof of prior month's income and proof of citizenship or immigration status is required. For additional assistance, please call 1-877-764-5437.
