Pentewan Accommodation Information Update
The 2022 Lark Championships have been announced and the first thing to do is book your accommodation. In these unprecedented times UK holiday bookings are off the scale. However your Lark Committee have been working tirelessly, behind the scenes, to secure accommodation within a stone's throw of the sailing venue.
Read on to secure your accommodation for next year's biggest event.
Congratulations to those who have already booked holiday chalets in the Pentewan Holiday Park; you were quick out of the blocks. With their current availability now expired, we seek other options for those wishing to take par tin next year's nationals, These are split into 3 areas.
1. Pitches on Pentewan Holiday Park for Campervans, Tents or Caravans
If you wish to avoid the lottery of the standard booking procedure, please contact with Dan Watson. He has secured a number of pitches with the Park's owners, that will not be entered into the ballot that takes place in November. Please email Dan Watson to secure your pitch.
2. B&B and Self Catering in Pentewan village
There are a number of B&Bs and Self catering options available in the village. We have gained exclusivity of the following locations for Lark sailors. Please contact them quoting the Sailing Competition to get your accommodation, if one below takes your fancy
i) Lime Kiln Cottage / sleeps 4-6 - 2 bedrooms / £1700 week / information

3. Other Holiday Parks in the area
There are two holiday parks in the local area. Both are just a 15min walk away from the Sailing Club.

Why we're going to Pentewan by Matt Newton-Sherlock
Although more recently a regular Solo sailor, I’ve enjoyed sailing larks on and off since the mid 90s. During that time, however, I’ve only ever sailed at a handful of Lark opens. Suffice to say I never would have thought for a moment that I would have signed myself up for the Lark Nationals in 2022. Until, that is, the announcement email landed in my inbox and I instantly knew 2022 was to be the year.
The Lark Nationals 2022 are being held at Pentewan Sands, one of my family’s all-time favourite holiday destinations. Nestled on the South Cornish coast, in an enviable position in the Pentewan valley, the place is truly an absolute gem. We discovered it several years ago and have returned year on year ever since for holidays with family and friends alike. It never disappoints.
It’s one of those rare places that has all the ingredients for a perfect holiday. Situated smack bang on a wide sandy beach, and complete with every conceivable trapping you might need for a great family break (here I have to mention the awesome Hubbox beach side burger bar where you can sip a cold beer with sand between your toes) what’s not to love. Add to this a good dose of sailing and top with great company and you have a making of a very memorable week indeed.
Whether stretching your legs on the coastal path to Mevagissey, cycling along the Pentewan valley cycle path, or hanging out on the beach, the place is an outdoor family’s playground. A short stroll across the bridge into the delightfully quaint Pentewan village beings you to the family friendly Ship Inn, cafes and a few shops.
While I have to admit our car rarely leaves its parking spot while we’re at Pentewan, for those with itchier feet, a little further afield the lost gardens of Heligan, the port of Charlestown (where Poldark was filmed) and the Eden project are all no more than 20 minutes’ drive away.
My family and I are all very excited about the week, not just for the sailing but returning to a place we all feel so relaxed and know we will have so much fun.
In the meantime, my home club, Barnt Green, is undergoing something of a Lark resurgence. We have a rich Lark history, complete with silverware which reads like a who’s who of the Lark class since 1968, but the class had suffered a dip in popularity. Earlier this year we introduced fortnightly “Big Wednesdays” to encourage as many Larks out onto the water to join the pursuit as possible. It’s been extremely popular and to date we have 4 families signed up for Pentewan 2022. We look forward to meeting some of you there!

Your beloved Lark Class are looking to improve their social media presence and need some help in creating and posting social media posts to the various platforms, including facebook, twitter, instagram and youtube. The class will offer professional training to ensure volunteers have all the tools and knowledge needed to complete their activities efficiently. So if you're interested in receiving social media training and are able to spend some time updating social media content, then please contact Dan Watson at marketing@larkclass.org.
