July Newsletter
Summer break from school gives us the chance to prioritize different types of projects - which is so exciting! We currently are working closely with one of our Music Workshop Board Members, who is an amazing music teacher and jazz saxophonist, on adding new and inspiring extension activities to the program. We can't wait to share this exciting new content with you. We will have an update in our August Newsletter with details on our new offerings.
Include Music Workshop in your planning for next year

So many teachers turned to Music Workshop during the hectic 2020-21 school year. We were delighted to be a ready made solution for distance and hybrid learning. AND... did you know that Music Workshop was designed specifically to be used in the classroom to include the vital interaction between teacher, students and classmates. Not only is a Music Workshop lesson perfect for a sub - it is an amazing addition to many musical units. One of our favorite teachers, Beth in Texas, uses our Jazz course to kick off her 2 week long Jazz unit. Her students love the course and it gives them a great overview to welcome them to the world of Jazz.
Keep Music Workshop in your plans for next year in the classroom! Happy Planning!
Our Cultural Advisors
We are honored to have such a distinguished group of amazing ethnomusicologists and teachers who lend their expertise to the creation of the courses in our Culture Series. Above, you can hear from Dr. Damascus Kafumbe, one of the advisors for our Music from Africa courses. The first course on Traditional music from the continent of Africa will be launching soon. The second on Contemporary music is set to launch in the fall!
Did you know? Music Workshop on Spotify
We have added the music from each of our courses to Spotify as playlists to make it easier for you to share the music as an active listening extension activity or just to enjoy the sounds of the music and artists that your students experienced. There are so many different activities you could use these songs for with your students. Note: these songs are not all student friendly when taken in their entirety - so please preview. For example, share selected songs from the playlist and ask your students to choose a song to identify musical forms, or research the artist or share an active listening exercise about how it impacts them. Let them get creative!
Go to Music Workshop's Spotify Profile now...
We love bringing you high-quality, culturally relevant music resources - free of charge! Now, there's even more reason to make Music Workshop a regular part of your music program. Each Feedback Form that you submit is now a raffle ticket. At the end of each month, we will pull a name from the Feedback that we received that month and that teacher will receive a $100 Amazon gift card. Each new month is a new chance to win! Congrats Julie!
Good luck!

Inside Music Workshop

Only YOU can judge what is appropriate for your classrooms. We do our best to choose artists, songs and portions of songs deemed appropriate for the widest group of students. But, we surely know, only you know what will be appropriate within your specific classroom, school and community. We suggest that you always preview any Music Workshop lessons that you are going to teach to your students to decide what is appropriate in your own classroom. There are certain genres and cultures that have a specific set of norms that may not work for your classes.  We have done our best, and enjoy hearing your interpretations, but in the end we count on you!
