COVID'S IMPACT ON NJ: 1,024,465 CASES & 26,477 DEATHS


Yesterday, state officials reported COVID-19 has spread to 894,007 PCR-confirmed cases, and 130,458 probable cases. It has killed a confirmed 23,774 people. 2,703 people likely died from the virus, though it hasn't been confirmed.

The statewide transmission rate is .95, which is the same as yesterday (.95).

NY, NJ, CT WARRING OVER HOW TO SPLIT $14B IN TRANSIT AID


New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut have been negotiating for months how to divvy up about $14 billion in federal aid for public transit projects. At this point, Jersey and Connecticut reportedly agree how to get it done, whereas New York wants more — it's hundreds of millions of dollars. (NorthJersey)

SUMMER SCHOOL STUDENTS MIGHT NEED TO WEAR MASKS

 
Students who attend summer school may be compelled to wear masks, depending on the district. The state is giving districts the power to decide whether masks are required at school during the summer. "Masking rules don’t apply to summer school, and schools can establish their own protocols," said Michael Yaple, a spokesperson for the state's education department. (NJ.com)

VOLUNTEERS UNCOVER GRAVES AT SITE FOR BLACK VETS

 
Almost 200 graves have been uncovered in Mount Peace Cemetery in South Jersey. A three-acre area was recently discovered and slowly cleaned up, thanks to patient and hard-working volunteers. Many still remain lost, including approximately 125 war veterans and the remains of Anna Maria Brin, a princess from Sierra Leone who died in 1905. (Philadelphia Inquirer)

SHOOTINGS IN PATERSON SPIKE, WILL LIKELY OUTPACE 2020


The Paterson Healing Collective believes that a program based in local hospitals could help the city turn a corner — that is, by reducing gun violence. The program will require more funding, they say. 163 shootings were reported in Paterson last year. This year, there's already been 100. (NJ Spotlight News)
