Dear AU Member...

If you watched Game of Thrones you'll have heard of "Winter Is Coming" (we tried, but every time we learned who someone was they immediately died, so we gave up), but the phrase on our lips this week has been "Summer is Coming!", cos we've been full steam ahead liasing with our lovely providers and getting artwork ready, and we're thrilled to be able to tell you that our summer guide is NOW OUT!

We're delighted to have so many of our previous providers back up and running, and we're equally delighted to be able to introduce you to some new ones, too. There's a great range of activities, all of which can be booked using your AU short breaks budget (also open to AU members who don't receive budgets, at subsidised rates), so why not take a look and see if there's something in there that would suit your family this summer.

Important note: if you are a new AU member who has registered via our new portal, you will not be able to book activities directly through our website. However, each web listing gives the contact details for the activity provider - if you contact them directly, they will be happy to book you in.

Independent Review of Suffolk SEND Services

Suffolk County Council have asked a team from the Lincolnshire SEND system to carry out an independent review into the way parents and carers are communicated with and kept informed of their child’s SEND provision in Suffolk.

The review will focus on the processes, communication protocols and family-facing elements of SEND services within Suffolk County Council. It will not look at specific cases or the provision given to specific children.

If you would like to participate in this review then please share your experiences of the processes, communication protocols and family-facing elements of SEND services within Suffolk County Council by emailing SendReview@suffolk.gov.uk.

You can read more about the review here.

Transitioning to Secondary School: SENDIASS

SENDIASS write, "Our recent training survey shows families want more information and help around their child’s transition from primary to secondary school.  We want to make sure that the training and information we put together matches what families want to find out, to help them feel more confident. We are therefore offering two informal online sessions to gather the questions parents and carers have around transition to secondary school so they can tell us what kind of information would help them most, and in what form. They can just pop in to one of the sessions for ten or fifteen minutes to share their thoughts or stay for the whole session."

The sessions are:
15th July 2021                      6:30pm – 7:30pm

19th July 2021                      10am – 11am

COVID Vaccine information for Paid and Unpaid Carers

In addition to booking a vaccine via the National Booking System or accessing them via your GP, a list of walk-in clinics in Suffolk is available for COVID vaccines. This gives clinic dates and the make of vaccine administered from each clinic. Link to clinic listings here.

Your 2nd vaccine can also be administered at walk in centres 8 weeks after the 1st vaccine has been given. However, if you have an appointment already for your 2nd vaccine and decided to get it instead from a walk-in centre you must cancel your booked appointment.

Details about other walk-in vaccine sessions can also be found at https://eput.nhs.uk/news-events/coronavirus/coronavirus-vaccine/

If you had a first vaccine between 77-84 days ago and haven’t got an appointment for your 2nd vaccine, please phone 0344 257 3961 (excluding carers living in Waveney) and they will arrange an appointment as soon as possible for you.  For carers aged 16+ in the Waveney area who would like a vaccine, the following link will signpost you to a list of current walk-in centres and bookable appointments:- https://norfolkandwaveneyccg.nhs.uk/covid-19-vaccination-programme. The site also includes helpful information and how to access 2nd vaccines.

That's all from us today! We hope you enjoy looking through the summer guide and we'll be in touch soon.

Best wishes,
