Dear Colleague,

Happy first week of July! This month we're shifting our focus to emerging trends such as the monetization of blockchain networks and the increasing importance of cybersecurity. We saw last month that cybersecurity is more imperative than ever. The recent
Colonial Pipeline hack led people across the Eastern and Southern U.S. to panic-buy gas and drivers saw increases in gas prices. On an even larger scale, Fortune 500 companies and U.S. government agencies were impacted by the unprecedented SolarWinds hack, leaving critical systems at these organizations unsecured for potentially years to come.

We're also seeing increasing interest in data economies and a push to better understand and protect our data - the U.S., UK, and China lead the pack in data volume, usage, accessibility, and complexity.  One way to get control over your data — whether you're a company, nonprofit, or individual — is to understand how to monetize it and share it on your terms.

If you're interested in learning more about these topics, be sure to register for our July and August Community Innovation Lectures! This month, we're hosting a panel on Monetization in Blockchain Business Networks moderated by MOBI founder and co-director Chris Ballinger with experts from Hyperledger, Accenture, and Pool Foundation. In August, former black hat hacker Hector Monsegur joins us to discuss recent ransomware attacks and how mobility industries such as supply chains can better prepare themselves for the increasing threat of cyber attacks. Learn more and register below!

Sincerely,
MOBI Team
Join us on 14 July to hear an expert panel on opportunities to monetize data and services within consortium networks. Expert panelists will share differing perspectives on the role of data, shared services, governance, and tokens. Expect to leave the event with a clearer picture of the possible ledger-based business models for mobility, permissioned data, the “trusted trip,” and how the network’s core services of governance, authority, identity, and assurance (GAIA) can accelerate monetization.

Join us on 18 August for a conversation with Hector Monsegur, one of the most controversial hackers of this generation. Alongside his friend, MOBI Working Groups Lead Rajat Rajbhandari,  Hector will discuss the topic of cybersecurity. Hector will share his experience as a black hat, his transition to white hat, and his current role in assisting large enterprises against cyber-attacks. He will also share his thoughts on recent ransomware hacks, potential attack vectors in supply chain, IoT, automated vehicles, and how enterprises can become better prepared.

Supply Chain Working Group members from Ford, AWS, and FIM Research Center talk in-depth about the SC WG's innovations and value propositions within the mobility supply chain, including the deployment of multi-party supply chain parts traceability applications. This panel introduces listeners to the use case review of end-to-end parts traceability, as well as a high-level overview of the reference implementation architecture and how it leverages blockchain, DLT, VID, and other primitives.

Andreas explores the concepts of decentralized identifiers and verifiable credentials, and how these industry standards together with their implementations can be utilized to build secure and privacy-preserving federated, or even decentralized, trust networks without centralized 3rd party trust providers. He also discusses the role that MOBI is playing in rebuilding the web of trust through developing standards-based identity and assurance core services and application interoperability infrastructure for the mobiNET project, as well as why and how to get involved in the development.

MOBI members enjoy a wide range of benefits and opportunities specifically designed to promote smart mobility through blockchain and distributed ledgers. Among the benefits of membership are participation in our working groups, access to the MOBI Vehicle Identity (VID) and other MOBI Standards, networking, speaking, and sponsorship opportunities at our MoCo (MOBI Colloquiums) and at our Community Innovation Lecture Series. See who makes up our consortium in the member directory.
