CTSI Pilot Project Program

The Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) is seeking applications for two translational research pilot project programs 1) Collaborative Research Pilot Projects, and 2) Applied Research Pilot Projects. The intent of the CTSI Translational Research Pilot Project Program is to provide one year of support for scientific studies and/or investigations with industrial/entrepreneurial potential. The goal of the Collaborative Translational Pilot program is to enable development of preliminary data that will serve as the foundation for translational research projects that are impactful with a high likelihood of achieving their aims and therefore competitive for external peer review full-scale funding. Of particular interest are projects designed to develop new approaches to overcoming obstacles to translational research. Industrial Translational Pilot projects should be capable of creating / developing intellectual property with potential to attract interest from investors or licensees. The purpose of the Request for Application (RFA) is to support the development of collaborative T1-T3 translational research by investigators associated with the CTSI and to encourage new investigators to engage in translational research.  This call for applications is aimed at all phases of translational research along the continuum from bench to beside to community, including the following:

  • T1 translational research: the process of applying discoveries made in the laboratory.
  • T2 translational research: focuses on clinical studies using human subjects.
  • T3 translational research: the translation, diffusion, and adoption of evidence-based health strategies and interventions into community and practice settings (representative methods include community-based participatory research, practice-based research, comparative effectiveness research, behavioral economics,  and implementation and dissemination research)

Eligibility:
This competition is open to all investigators at the School of Medicine, as well as to the other schools and colleges of NYU, members of NYC Health and Hospitals (H+H) with NYU faculty appointments or who are working in partnership with one or more NYU faculty investigators, and researchers at the Nathan Kline Institute. Additionally, it is open to members of the NYU CTSI Community Advisory Board in partnership with one or more NYU faculty investigators. Eligible applicants include all faculty members, senior post-doctoral research fellows and clinical fellows if they are likely to become faculty members whose proposals fit the above-listed criteria. Students, residents and beginning post-doctoral fellows are not eligible. We strongly encourage junior investigators and underrepresented persons to apply to the program.

Doris Duke Physician Scientist Fellowship

Extended Deadline

The Doris Duke Charitable Foundation's Fund to Retain Clinical Scientists (FRCS) program at NYU Langone Health (NYULH) is an “extra hands” program that support our 250+ junior faculty who conduct human subjects research across NYULH's vast network of subsidiary institutions, including the NYU Grossman School of Medicine, five hospitals, emergency care locations, academic departments and the CTSI. The program seeks to support physician scientists in subspecialty fellowship to conduct an outstanding clinical research project, ensure research time protection to enable development of research skill, and facilitate strong mentor relationships.
Funds up to $43,000 will be awarded over 12 months (with option to renew for an additional year) to early-career physician scientists (MD, MD/PhD, DO, or foreign equivalent) in subspecialty fellowship training to support two years of clinical research that will strengthen their careers as biomedical investigators. Look out for our Request for Applications (RFA) later this fall. Please contact Elana Lipschitz for full application details or additional questions.

Data Day to Day Series

The New York University Health Sciences Library (NYUHSL) has organized an impressive lineup for this summer's Data Day-to-Day! During the last three weeks of July, expert instructors from across the Medical Center will conduct workshops on topics ranging from programming in R to research with immigrant populations to developing surveys in multiple languages using REDCap. In tandem, we will also be offering our REDCap series of classes. Please see below for full schedule and registration links. Descriptions of each workshop are available via the NYUHSL event calendar
