The World
We pray for China as it celebrates 100 years of the Communist Party, and we ask that it becomes more open, transparent and inclusive within its ranks and in its international relationships. With those who are still waiting for answers following the Florida condo collapse, we ask for a resolution which will be helpful and bring them peace. While we are thankful for the return of Australian peace-keeping troops from Afghanistan, we continue in prayer for Afghanis in the face of Taliban resurgence. We continue to pray for the desperate situation in Burkina Faso, where terrorists have control, markets have closed, violence has escalated from looting to burning whole villages. It is encouraging to hear that UN Secretary-General has moved to ask the US to relax sanctions on Iran, as agreed in 2015, aimed at stopping Tehran from developing nuclear weapons. The tension between Israel and Palestine continues to be an upsetting and frightening period, following Israeli air strikes on Gaza, and Hamas rockets fired into Israel. As we have just ended a week of Reconciliation, and look forward to NAIDOC Week, we pray with grieving Canadians where unmarked graves of their institutionalised First Nations children continue to be revealed, and churches have been burnt. Our prayers continue for the global community as the fight against COVID-19 infections continue, particularly for Brazil where deaths have occurred in overwhelming numbers, and now vaccine purchases from India have been suspended after encountering irregularities.
Our City and State
While findings continue to be confronting, we give thanks for continuing research that is highlighting dimensions of family violence in specific community areas. Monash is providing statistics showing 40% of women seeking advice and support in family violence situations are visa holders with temporary migration status.
The Anglican Communion
The Anglican Church of Papua New Guinea. Anglican and Roman Catholic church leaders have expressed concern over the plight of refugees in northern France. The newly installed Anglican Archbishop in Jerusalem, Hosam Naoum, has called on all Anglicans to pray in response to violence in the Holy Land.
The Australian Anglican Church
The Diocese of Armidale (Bp Rod Chiswell, Dean Chris Brennan, Clergy & People). Primate Geoff Smith has urged mercy based on Bible teaching rather than political pragmatism in resolving the two-year detention of the Murugappan family, with the reminder that God’s love is for every creed and colour, gender and race, not just those who look like us or share our beliefs.

Our Cathedral
We pray that we will continue to work together to find creative ways to engage in ministry according to what the limitations will allow. Help us all to be more focused on what we can do, rather than what is still restricted, and guide us as we make plans for opportunities of being together.
