We hope you were all able to make the most out of this school year even though it could have posed many challenges for families and students of all ages. Finding new and exciting ways to learn can help kids stay focused and interested, creating a more holistic learning environment. We have already touched on the importance of Vitamin D from the sun in one of our previous blogs about boosting your immune system, check out our latest blog highlighting some more benefits to taking your child’s learning outdoors this summer!

Benefits to Extending Learning Outdoors

During the summer months, it is easy to relax and rejoice with the time off from structured learning. However, it can be very beneficial for students of all ages to continue to practice and brush up on their skills throughout this time. The great outdoors provides endless possibilities for wonder and imagination. Math and English learning opportunities are everywhere. The following are some benefits to taking learning outside with you on your summer adventures and some helpful hints on how to incorporate learning into everyday experiences. Nature Hunt Game

What you will need:

Notebook & writing utensil
Your senses
Bag (optional)
Your sense of adventure!

How to Play:

Find an outdoor location to explore
Decide on something you want to hunt for (this can be interest based - let your child choose)
Go hunting!
Use your notebook to track how many of the things you see.
Utilize your senses to see, touch (with caution) and hear for whatever it is you’re looking for

Bonus - if you are hunting for objects like leaves, rocks or pine cones, collect them in a bag and bring them home to allow for more exploration!

Tracking what you observe and could be plotted onto a graph as well!
