Restoring Natural Landscapes

Inspiring week with Stuart Andrews and John Fry of Tarwyn Park Training learning Natural Sequence farming techniques 15-18 June.  Thank you to North West Local Land Services for supporting NSLA and Green Triangle Farmers to run this event.  Also huge thanks to the The University of Sydney Plant Breeding Institute Narrabri for providing a sensational classroom both indoors and out.
Participants learned on ground, practical and achievable methods to "slow the flow" of water across their landscapes, as well as learning the benefits of biodiversity, controlled grazing and protecting land's fertility.  The aim is to try and restore landscapes to their original functionality.

Justin Kirkby finalist for The Bob Hawke Landcare Award

Huge congratulations to Board member Justin Kirkby of Amarula Farm, who has just been announced as one of 3 finalists in the Bob Hawke Landcare Award.  The Bob Hawke Landcare Award is a prestigious, national award that publicly recognises an individual involved in championing Landcare and inspires others to take action on their own property or through a Landcare group. The award recognises leadership and commitment in natural resource management and sustainable agriculture.  The winner will be announced at the 2021 National Landcare Awards gala dinner on Thursday 5 August, 2021.
Justin and Lorroi are also in the running for the National Landcare farmer of the year award, and I'm sure anyone who has had anything to do with Justin and Lorroi will agree that these accolades are so very well deserved!  Their passion for their land and their generosity in sharing their learnings with their peers is well known.  Best of luck to you both, we will be keeping our fingers crossed!

Cultural connection day with Moree Urban Landcare

Brilliant day out with Moree Urban Landcare by the Mehi River, Moree on 20th May. Native planting, bush tucker foods, and learning about traditional arts and crafts including weaving, string making, carving.  Moree Urban Landcare are a relatively new group however they are off to a great start.  Watch this space to see what they have planned next!  If you're in the Moree area and would like to become involved, contact Paul Moxon at moxonpaul469@hotmail.com

Congratulations to the Barraba Central School & The “Native Tree Bushland” project.

The project was delivered through the school’s curriculum to raise awareness of biodiversity and Aboriginal culture. The students planted over 90 trees & the Opportunity Hub outreach program incorporated the traditional land management practices in the construction of a yarning circle incorporating a firepit, seating, water feature, totems and bush tucker garden.

The plantings will attract pollinators to the school including the critically endangered Regent Honeyeater, address erosion issues, improve the biodiversity of the school grounds and share Aboriginal culture among the students and the wider Barraba community.

The success of the project was showcased at the schools NAIDOC celebration on the 16th June where the theme is Heal Country!
Special thanks to the Opportunity Hub, Tamworth Aboriginal Land Council & Barraba Central School.

The ‘Native Tree Bushland’ project was made possible by the “Working Together” Small Grants Program, NSW Landcare & Northern Slopes Landcare Association.
