Changes to the Charities Bill 

The Charity Commission has been working closely with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sports, and the Law Commission to implement changes to charity law mentioned in the Queen’s Speech.  The five proposed changes are: 

  • Making it easier for charities to amend their governing documents.   

  • Providing more advice and clearer rules on land disposal.   

  • Having greater flexibility to use permanent endowments. 

  • The ability to pay Trustees for goods provided to the charity.   

  • Changing some of the rules on fundraising appeals if an appeal does not reach its target.

Impact of the pandemic on village halls 

ACRE have published a report into the impact of the pandemic on Village Halls.  The report found that 3 in 20 Halls took part in Covid relief activities whilst the majority closed.  Responses showed the diverse financial impact as well the creative solutions that Halls have found to the challenges of the pandemic.  For more information, please click the button below.

Ongoing funding for voluntary organisations 

Does your organisation need additional funds? We are pleased to announce we are now working with fundraising website easyfundraising to provide voluntary organisations in the region with a source of free funding.  Hundreds of organisations in the county are already raising money this way. Safeguarding Sessions  

The following safeguarding sessions are being held:

  • Economic Exploitation of Under 18s: Money Mules - Tues 6th July from 10.30am - 12pm.  The focus of this session is children and young people who are being involved in economic fraud.  The session includes trends and issues, law enforcement response, as well as learnings from county lines.  Click here to join the session on the day.   

  • Safeguarding Policy and Practice - Weds 7th July from 10.30am - 11.30am.  This session will explore the latest safeguarding policies and best practice, sharing examples from  a range of projects. Click here to join the session on the day.  

These sessions are led by the Home Office and the Charity Commission along with partner organisations.  



Covid-19 Safer Spaces 

Architects, IF_DO, have published a series of guides to help places reopen safely in the wake of the pandemic, these include: 

  • Libraries 

  • Churches 

  • Streets 

  • Youth Clubs 

  • Community Centres 

  • Covered Markets

Leading in Uncertainty - Peer support for charity and social enterprise leaders

IVAR is running 90-minute drop-in peer support sessions for groups of 10 charity leaders every week, from June 2021, via zoom. Participants will have a safe space to share challenges, time to pause and reflect, and the opportunity to hear each other’s experiences of adapting to leading in prolonged uncertainty: ‘Meeting others from a different geographical area provides the opportunity to be frank about challenges faced and therefore allows open discussion which can identify strong solutions’. There will also be clear pathways to influence funder practices through IVAR’s Open and trusting grant-making initiative. You can find out more and book your session by clicking the button below. 


National Learning Hub for Volunteering 

Resources are available for both volunteers and the teams that support them, from the National Learning Hub for Volunteers.  Once you register to use the Hub you can find a full programme of education from a variety of providers and resources to help volunteers.  For more information, please click the button below. 


Norfolk's Carers Free Wellbeing Packs 

A second round of wellbeing packs are being made available to Norfolk’s unpaid carers.  The packs include Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to support recipients in their role as a carer, as well as a range of items for the carer to enjoy.  To register to receive a pack please click the button below.   

  

Consultation and Engagement

A Breastfeeding Strategy for Norfolk and Waveney   

The three Maternity Voices Partnerships (MVPs) in our region are working together to gather feedback from families across Norfolk and Waveney to help improve breastfeeding support.  We would like to hear from both formula and breastfeeding families to help us understand the things which informed the choices along your journey.  The survey aims to capture your experiences and suggestions on: 

  • Information during pregnancy 

  • Support in hospital  

  • Support on the NICU 

  • Support once home 

  • Tongue Tie identification and support 

  • Improving support for the future

Community Mental Health Transformation Experts by Experience Programme  

Expressions of interest from people with lived experience of severe mental illness (whether themselves or as a carer) to help to shape the new Community Mental Health Transformation Plans.  The deadline for expressions of interest is Thurs 15th July.  For more information, please click the button below.    



 

Respond, Recover, Reset – Barometer Survey 

Each month, NCVO and partners, will be inviting comments from VCSE organisations to capture a real time picture of the sector’s recovery from the pandemic. The survey has a series of questions that remain the same each month, and a series of questions that focus on a particular theme.  The findings of each month are published shortly after.  The deadline for this month’s survey is Mon 26th July.  For more information, please click the button below.

Blackbaud The Status of UK Fundraising 2021 

Blackbaud are looking for information about the fundraising challenges you are facing and opportunities you are excited about in 2021 in their annual Status of UK Fundraising survey.  The survey provides a comprehensive view of the fundraising sector and provides useful insight for VCSE organisations looking to benchmark their performance.
