Grab a jab and get protected
First jab
It’s never been easier for people to get their first COVID-19 vaccination with pop-up clinics in Falmouth, Camborne and Newquay and walk-in appointments now available at vaccination sites in Cornwall for everyone aged 18 and over. Find out the latest on www.kernowccg.nhs.uk.
Please continue to encourage people who haven’t already had their first jab to get theirs this weekend and protect themselves from COVID-19.
Second jab
Anyone who is older than 40 and waiting for their second jab can bring forward their appointment from 12 to 8 weeks by calling 119 or using the national online booking service.
You’ll need to cancel your existing appointment for a second jab and rebook for an earlier one. Don’t worry, you won’t lose your chance for an appointment by doing this.

As well as being vaccinated, one of the main ways we can get rates of COVID back down in Cornwall is for us all to make twice-weekly testing part of our regular routine. The symptoms of the Delta variant can be like a cold, so many people don’t realise they’re infected.
You can pick up free tests from local testing sites and pharmacies or order online. Here’s how to get your free tests.

Cornwall Council has put together a free information pack for anyone who has questions about self-isolating. The pack explains what you need to do, what support is available, and if and how you may be entitled to apply for financial support. Download a self-isolation information pack.

If you’ve been told to self-isolate by the national Test and Trace service, you may receive a follow up call from Cornwall Council local case review service. It’s nothing to worry about. The Our case review service page on Cornwall Council’s website explains what will happen.

COVID advice for local businesses
Cornwall Council is urging local businesses to test all employees regularly and encourage vaccine take up to help keep everyone safe and stem the rise of cases in Cornwall.
The Council is providing extra help, support and advice to businesses, especially in the hospitality sector, to support business continuity and keep them open safely. A recording from 1 July of the latest in a series of webinars for businesses, town and parish councils, and voluntary and community groups will soon be available to view online and focuses on what to do if your business has a case of COVID.
The Council is actively managing and monitoring settings where there are outbreaks with an enhanced testing regime and robust case review work to understand how the virus has been transmitted.
Businesses can access support and up-to-date guidance and resources to help them comply with the latest COVID restrictions on the Business Regulatory Support website.

Boundary Review update
The latest Boundary Review proposals have been published by the Boundary Commission for England (BCE) as part of an initial consultation which runs until 2 August 2021. Town and parish councils and local residents should respond direct to the Boundary Commission for England. You can see the proposals and submit your feedback here.
The results of the consultation will inform a formal final report to the Speaker of the House of Commons before July 2023.
Proposals for revised parliamentary boundaries will keep the six parliamentary constituencies wholly within Cornwall.
A previous Boundary Review proposed a cross-Tamar parliamentary seat, which has now been dropped.
The previous review had sought to reduce the number of MPs from 650 to 600, but this review keeps the number at 650. It means that Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly has an entitlement to 5.97 seats – which has allowed the Boundary Commission to ‘Keep Cornwall Whole’ with six constituencies.

Queen's Platinum Jubiliee briefing
In 2022, Her Majesty The Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, seventy years of service, having acceded to the throne on 6 February 1952 when Her Majesty was 25 years old. There will be Platinum Jubilee celebrations throughout the year and an extended bank holiday, from Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 June, which will provide an opportunity for communities and people throughout the United Kingdom to come together to celebrate the historic milestone.
The Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall, Col Edward Bolitho would like to invite you and colleagues to a briefing to discuss initial plans and thoughts about how we in Cornwall can celebrate.
The briefing will be on Wednesday 14 July at 2pm.

Tour of Britain
Plans are already underway for the Tour of Britain cycle race’s first stage in Cornwall on Sunday 5 September 2021. This will be the largest free spectator sports event ever held in Cornwall, with international cycling teams competing across a 100 mile route which zigzags from Penzance to Bodmin.
Town and parish councils with communities on the route will receive an invitation to a meeting being held on 15 July, where they will receive further details of the route timings, road closures and parking arrangements for the Tour of Britain.
The key feature of Cornwall Council’s traffic plans is a ‘rolling road closure’ where village and town roads are closed only temporarily as the race passes through. Spectators will see the sequence of broadcast vehicles, then the peloton of cycling competitors followed by race officials, and a swift road reopening and clear-up.
COVID safety for teams and spectators is a priority. The event organisers have appointed a dedicated COVID officer and Cornwall Council’s Public Health team will be taking advice directly from Public Health England on COVID regulations and restrictions. Spectators spread along the whole route mean this will be unlike a stadium or single-site sports event.
Town and parish councils looking to join the celebrations and run community events are requested to submit event notification forms by 16 July to Cornwall Council.

Free Landmark Trees
The Forest for Cornwall, with support from the Woodland Trust Emergency Tree Fund, is offering every community (via their parish or town council) a celebratory Landmark Tree to plant this winter or next to celebrate a person, place or event in their community and to share that story and why a tree is appropriate.
Town and parish councils, or their nominated contact, can apply via Let’s Talk Cornwall, which has more information. Please apply by 2 August (to allow time for trees to be ordered) or register an interest for next year if you need more time to plan.
Town and parish councils will be contacted about their application at the end of September to confirm tree availability and timings.
Forest for Cornwall’s guidance suggests a short list of tree species they can source, but they can consider others if there is a particular tree that suits your needs or space.
Trees can be planted as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy, the Plant for Our Planet or Countryfile’s Plant Britain initiatives or the community’s own plans.
Many communities are already planting trees or may like to do more. You can find guidance and links to more free community trees on Cornwall Council’s website.

ERDF Welcome Back Fund
A reminder to please complete the ERDF Welcome Back Fund survey by Friday 9 July. It was included with the recent information and guidance sent to town and parish council clerks about the £609,639 Welcome Back Fund.
Funded by the European Regional Development Fund, the Welcome Back Fund is an extension to 31 March 2022 of the Reopening High Streets Safely Fund and allows a wider range of activities. It aims to help towns continue to safely manage and address the long-term impact of COVID-19, attract people into their local shopping areas and contribute to their vitality.
Cornwall Council is looking at using part of this funding to commission an engaging programme of cultural and creative events across Cornwall. The aim is to help tackle the challenges of seasonality and encourage visitors to experience those towns which are less-visited.
The survey will help you highlight the other areas you might like the funding to target. This will identify any common threads of interest to support possible centralised procurement, minimise any admin load on those wishing to benefit from some of the available funding, and ensure there is a fairer distribution of monetary support across Cornwall.

Emergency accommodation
Cornwall Council is planning to provide safe and secure accommodation for hundreds of people currently without a permanent home in Cornwall.
Due to the exceptional number of people the Council has accommodated as a result of COVID, up to 1,000 people – from single-person households to families – are currently in temporary or emergency accommodation in Cornwall, including in hotels, which do not offer security in terms of availability, especially over weekends and during the holiday season.
The Council is addressing this as a matter of urgency to give those in need of such accommodation somewhere safe to stay without the prospect of having to move at short notice.
Solutions being looked at include purchasing around 100 park homes to be put on ‘pop-up’ sites, which would be able to house four people each and so provide a home for families.
Another accommodation type will be ‘Bunkabin’ self-contained units, such as those that have been successfully put in place by the Council in Truro and Penzance during the COVID response. Read more
