We hope you have a great Independence Day weekend! Here are some local events to help you celebrate:
* Sunday Church service at the Assembly will be held at 11:00 a.m.
* No ballfield games this year but the CSA's first Fourth of July Water Carnival will be held on Sunday. Though sandcastle builders can begin at any time, the event officially begins at 2:00 p.m., weather permitting. Volunteers to help supervise the activities would be greatly appreciated.
* No parade in town, but there will be a boat parade on July 3rd on Crystal Lake that starts at 9:00 a.m. in Beulah and should pass by our beach within the hour.
* Fireworks show will be held on July 4th at Frankfort beach at dusk. There will also be a fireworks display on Crystal Lake on July 4th at 10:15 p.m. between the CSA and the CLYC.
* Firecracker 5K race starts in Beulah Park on July 4th at 8:00 a.m.

The Church Service on Sunday, July 4th will be held in the Meeting House at 11:00 a.m. led by Rev. Jim Reisner. Adult Bible Class will be held at 9:30 a.m. in the South Room of the Meeting House.
The services are recorded each week by the Communications Committee and posted to the Congregational Summer Assembly YouTube Channel, as well as to the Spiritual Life page of our website www.summerassembly.org.

Seeking Cottage Treasures!
We're excited to bring Cottage Treasures back in conjunction with the Wednesday, July 28th Arts and Crafts Fair! Please take a look around your cottage and purge what no longer belongs and is gently used. For those of you coming from your primary homes, please include a treasure or two when you pack your vehicle. We remind you that we also desire "finer" treasures that can be sold through Treasure Troves. Donation drop off times: Friday, July 23rd - 9 to 4; Saturday, July 24th - 2 to 4; Sunday, July 25th - 12 to 4; Monday, July 26th - 9 to 4. We can NOT accept:
Mattresses, box springs, couches, sofa sleepers, large furniture pieces, major appliances, building materials, child car seats, electronics (TV, DVD, or VCR players, computers, printers, fax machines), large exercise equipment, paint or chemicals. The July Tennis Tournament will be held on July 5-10. Sign up end at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 3rd in the Assembly Building - no exceptions. If you cannot sign up in person you can ask someone to do it for you.

Art Workshops to be Held Weds. July 7 at the Assembly Building
Three Art Workshops will be held on Wednesday, July 7th - sign up on the Assembly Porch:
Outdoor Still Life Painting with Peggy Hawley from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Create a still life painting using oil pastels outdoors. Please bring a chair and a drawing board – any hard surface, like a large book or piece of wood will do. $5 materials fee per person.
Playing with Words Workshop with Barb Perry from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. on the Knoll
Come consider the past year, read some poems, do a little journaling and mine for words that
express the best and worst of it. Bring a writing utensil and a notebook.
Sunset Photography with Noah Sorenson from 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. (until sunset)
Starts with a short discussion, then will likely head to Point Betsie (chosen for accessibility) and go over photography basics, tips suggestions, composition, equipment, and answer any questions. We will then shoot the sunset together as a group. Bring a camera or cell phone if you want but not required.

From Alan Marble Regarding Raccoons:
Many folks in CSA have noticed the trio of young raccoons which have been working the neighborhood from the Meeting House to Esplanade, and probably beyond. The raccoons are evidently orphans, their mother probably a victim of the highway. Most active at night when accompanied by the mother, their daytime activities are a sure sign that they are on their own. They are, however, apparently getting by, perhaps even thriving. That said, it is important for folks to remember that feeding these youngsters would be a big mistake.
First, there is abundant natural food available at this time of year for all birds and mammals. Second, feeding young raccoons is a sure-fire way to make serious pests of them, habits which they will carry on into adulthood when they are not quite so cute, and become potentially dangerous. Raccoons are known to carry rabies, and may also suffer from distemper, which may be communicated to dogs and other pets. Raccoons also can host a roundworm which lays eggs in its feces. If the eggs are accidentally ingested by a human through direct physical contact (petting the fur of an infected animal, for example), possible outcomes include blindness and even death in the case of infected youngsters.
As is true with most wildlife, the best practice is to maintain a “hands-off” approach.

CSA‘S GOT TALENT!
In place of the Operettas and Open Mic Night, you are invited to perform in CSA’S GOT TALENT on Friday, JULY 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Meeting House. You can dance, sing, act or otherwise express your unique talent on stage in this once in a lifetime opportunity! All ages are welcome. A sign up will be posted near the whiteboard, or to sign up online, click here.
The Operetta Musical Directors have graciously offered to assist and rehearse with your act the week of July 12.
Masks are not required during your performance if singers are spaced appropriately onstage or are in the same bubble or family. Groups of up to 4 may sing together without masks.
