DANTE ALIGHIERI – la Divina Commedia
PURGATORIO - Canto XXVIII - versi 52/57
che vergine che li occhi onesti avvalli.
fioretti verso me, non altrimenti
volsesi in su i vermigli e in su i gialli
e piede innanzi piede appena mette,
a terra e intra sé, donna che balli
Come si volge, con le piante strette

DANTE ALIGHIERI - The Divine Comedy
PURGATORY - Canto XXVIII – verses 52-57
As a lady turns in the dance
Keeping her feet together on the ground,
and hardly puts one foot before the other,
on the red and yellow flowers
she turned in my direction,
lowering her modest eyes, as does a virgin
translation by Jean and Robert Hollander – USA 2003
