Sydney Adventist Youth Newsletter, July 2nd

Well, COVID is upon us again - crazy times we live in.

I just wanted to shoot you all a short note to encourage you to keep on keeping on the best you can in these tough times. In the Youth Department, we are about to go on holiday for 3 weeks, but here are a few ideas you may find helpful while we are away:
The British Union has also put together a number of online honours you (or Pathfinders at home) can do, and you can order the patches directly from them -https://youth.adventistchurch.org.uk/e-club-pathfinders;https://www.facebook.com/adventistyouthukandireland- scroll down their Facebook page to find more.
An easy way to do life group is jump on Zoom and do the following:

  1. Connect for a few minutes – what’s going good, what’s a challenge, who needs help that you know (make sure you reach out to them)?
  2. Pray together!
  3. Go through a Gospel or a story based book of the Bible together – reading passage by passage ask these questions as you read the text –
  4. 1. What is new?
  5. 2. What surprises you?
  6. 3. What don’t you understand?
  7. 4. What will you obey or apply?
  8. 5. What will you share with someone this week?
  9. Pray again – for others you know, people who don’t know Jesus yet, and asking God to keep leading your lives - helping you to be the kind of servants He’s looking for.
  10. Don’t forget, you’re allowed to exercise together in groups of 10. So why not catch up, or go for a walk or a jog in the fresh air. Times like these can be used really well to build community.

We are cheering you all on! Praying you feel close to God in these times, and know He is there for you!

Blessings,

Pr Simon Gigliotti – Youth Director – Greater Sydney Conference

World Changers Bible & Leadership School

"Take 2 - August 27-29"

Hi World Changers!

We are very sorry that we had to cancel World chnagers weekend halfway through due to the NSW Lockdown.

But, we have good news. Over the last two days we have considered our options and we are happy to announce that we are planning to run “World Changers Bible and Leadership Weekend – Take 2” from August 27-29 – Friday night, Saturday, Sunday. Basically, we plan to take off where we left. We did talk about Zoom, but we think this will be a lot more beneficial and enjoyable for all to come back in person.

We have 10 sessions that we didn’t cover that look at the following areas – (We are aiming to have the original speakers and have already locked in Eddie Hypolite to come back).

  • How to Run a Life Group
  • How to be an Influential leader
  • Faith in 2021
  • Adventism in 2021
  • Connecting with the Community
  • + we still have much fun to have.

This is about 8 weeks from now, which will hopefully be enough time for the current COVID outbreak to slow down.

Here are the important details –

  1. Those who attended the camp on the weekend gone by will get first priority to the available spots.
  2. If by the time August 27-29 comes round there are more spots available under the COVID rules (basically we can fit more people), those who registered last time, but weren’t able to come will get priority to these spots. If any left after that we will open up to others.
  3. A number of people cancelled their attendance in the midst of the COVID outbreak, or were told we didn’t have enough room to fit them in. For these people, please let us know if you would like to remain on the list for the August camp by emailing -lindaciric@adventist.org.au. If we don’t hear from you, we will simply reimburse you your $120 or $150 -depending on if you were early bird or standard fee. If you would like to remain on the list, you will get to attend the upcoming camp for $90 or $120 – depending on if you were early bird or standard fee (A deduction of $30 to cover a day’s attendance as the new camp is a little shorter).
  4. For those that came this weekend, and plan to attend next time, there will be no extra cost for you. We will just kick the camp off again from where we left it.
  5. For those that came this weekend, if you can’t make the upcoming camp please let us know by emailing – lindaciric@adventist.org.au and we will reimburse you $60 or $75 - depending on if you were early bird or standard fee – a deduction of half your fee as you only got to attend about half the camp. If we don’t hear from those who attended this weekend’s camp, we will assume you plan to attend the next camp and reserve your spot.

Thanks so much for your patience!!

Looking forward to God’s leading in your lives and across our City as we look forward to the coming of Jesus! I really believe God is going to work in a powerful way in the next couple of years as we reach out to others for him!

Many Blessings,
Simon

Pathfinder Expedition

UPDATE:

Due to the increasing COVID-19 cases and outbreaks occurring in NSW at this time, the Pathfinder, and Adventist Outdoors Advisory teams have decided that the best possible chance we have of making sure Expedition takes place this year is to run it over the course of two weekends.

First weekend - 17th to 19th of September 2021

Second weekend - 24th to 26th of September 2021

To help us allocate clubs evenly to both weekends, we ask that Pathfinder Club Leaders fill in an Intent To Attend form. See form here: https://events.adventist.org.au/ew/app/registration/index.html?e=7232

World Changers Bible & Leadership School
