Simple hybrid in-person and virtual 10:00 a.m. English services via Zoom will begin this week Sunday.  Please call the temple office (ph. 536-7044) if you would like to attend in person.  For those wishing to join online, please see the Zoom meeting link below.  Recordings of the Zoom service will be added to the Hawaii Betsuin YouTube channel the following week.  We hope you can join us in this new format!

Hawaii Betsuin Dharma School Services - Dharma School will be taking a break over the summer.  Dharma School services will resume after Labor Day.  
 
8 am & 1 pm Asaji & Nicchu Japanese Services will continue in-person this Sunday, July 4th.  Please contact the office to reserve your seat at (808) 536-7044.  Services will be limited to 25 attendees.  The Asaji service speaker is Rev. Koho Takata and the Nicchu service speaker is Rimban Toyokazu Hagio.  There will be no refreshments or fellowship following these services.

  • Wondering about Hawaii Betsuin Bon Dance?! 
    Hawaii Betsuin Events Committee is planning a Bon Dance drive-thru experience on Saturday, August 28, 2021.  More information will be shared in future bulletins.

  • Rev. Kodo Umezu47th Annual Buddhist Study Center Summer Session will be July 12-16, 2021 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm with Rev. Kodo Umezu (former Bishop of Buddhist Churches of America).  His topic is Peace Through Buddha-dharma.  This is a virtual event.  For more information, please visit the website post on the Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii website.  

 
  • Rev. Ka'imipono TomiokaThe Hawaii District Ministers Association will be having free monthly online seminars starting Saturday, July 10, 2021 with Spiritual Foundation: Nembutsu that is true and real presented by Rev. Satoshi Ka'imipono Tomioka of Puna Hongwanji Buddhist Temple.  This is part of a 2021 Buddhist Education Series that will run until the end of the year.  For more information, please visit the web post on the Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii website.

  • Dial-A-Dharma Message - Starting this month, Hawaii Betsuin has started a new program on a trial basis for those sangha members who have limited internet capability or are not comfortable using the internet.  You can now call a local phone number and listen to a 5-minute Dharma message.  The number is (808) 536-2456.  Currently only English messages are available.  Japanese-language Dharma messages coming soon.  Please share this information with your friends and family.  The Dharma is only a call away!

     

 
The Hawaii Betsuin has an online offertory box where you can make online contributions to the temple using your credit card, debit card, or PayPal account.  You may make a one-time contribution or a recurring monthly contribution online.

COVID-19 and Temple Updates:
The Hawaii Betsuin business office is now open for in-person business, Monday - Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM and Saturdays from 9:00 AM - 12:00 noon.   We are also taking a limited number of in-person memorial service reservations for 25 attendees or fewer and columbarium visitations daily.  We encourage our families to also consider trying a Zoom online service.

If you are planning to come to the temple, please make sure you wear a face mask and staff will be taking your temperature.  Families attending a service or visiting the columbarium will be asked to fill out a liability waiver.   

Ministers and staff are available by phone or through email.  Please call the temple office for more information and/or to make an appointment at (808) 536-7044.
