Hello youcubians,
I hope your summer is going well and you are getting a much-deserved break from a very challenging school year. I have great news to share—Stanford recently relaxed its restrictions for campus events, so youcubed will begin hosting in-person professional development again starting in August. We have put together an exciting schedule of events that you will find at the end of this message. First, a few notes on our 2021 professional development:
- The Data Science Virtual Workshop for High School Teachers in July will still be conducted 100% remotely, as originally planned. This event is already sold out, but we are maintaining a wait list—if you would like to attend the workshop, please let us know by completing the form. Even if no additional spaces open up in the July workshop, if we get enough interest we will try to plan a new session!
- The Mathematics Leadership Summit in August will be conducted in person on the Stanford campus, as originally planned. There is still space available in this event! Attendees will need to complete a health check form each morning of the summit and participants coming from out of state also will need to attest to having a COVID vaccine, a negative COVID test or a 10-day stay in California prior to the event. The summit is for leaders, administrators, coaches – anyone wanting important information in leading change, and wanting to connect with others doing this important work.
- We are launching new workshops on ways to teach mathematics to heterogenous groups of students. These one-day workshops, which are offered as separate in-person or virtual sessions, will consider the methods of teaching that are effective in providing rich mathematics experiences for all students.
- Since mid-March 2020, all of our professional development has been conducted virtually. Initially, this was out of necessity, but after our first remote workshop we began to see that this format has real benefits. Many people were able to take our trainings for the first time, as travel to California was not an option for them, even before the pandemic. And others liked the flexibility of being able to watch a recording of some or all of the event, if the dates and times we offered did not fit their schedules exactly. So, by popular demand, we will continue to offer virtual professional development in the future.
A list of 2021 events is below, I hope you can join us!
