Thanks for the great picture and kind words, Robin!
This month’s giveaway is a heat-reactive The Night Circus mug fromoutofprint.com. The opposite side features the novel's opening line: The circus arrives without warning.
I buy a lot of items from Out of Print. They’re bookish, high-quality and great conversation starters. Best of all, every purchase helps to fund literacy programs and book donations to communities in need.
Although The Night Circus is different than my typical reading – part fantasy, part historical novel, part romance – it is among my all-time favorite books. The story is unique, vivid and beautifully-told. Have you read it? I’d love to hear your thoughts. Send me an email!
If you received this email from Jessica McCann, you're automatically entered in the giveaway. If not, the button below will take you to her website where you can subscribe, be entered for all giveaways, and earn bonus entries. Winner will be drawn and notified July 30.
This snippet from Dani Shapiro’s book, Still Writing*, really spoke to me – as both a reader and writer.
“The Buddhist teacher Jack Kornfield once said that all of life can be summed up in these three words: not always so. We plan on our day going in a certain direction? Not always so. We expect a friend or relative to behave the way they always have? Not always so.
“There is the pattern, and then there is the dropped stitch that disrupts the pattern, making it all the more complex and interesting. Stories are about the dropped stitch. About what happens when the pattern breaks.
“Though there is a certain poetry in the rhythm of everyday, it is most often a shift, a moment of not-always-so, that ends up being the story.”
(Special note: Thanks to friend and fellow writer Michele Feeney for recommending Shapiro’s book!)
Something for everyone…
“An arrow can only be shot by pulling it backward. When life is dragging you back with difficulties, it means that it’s going to launch you into something great. So, just focus, and keep aiming.” ~ Paulo Coelho
