Historic Preservation Mini-workshop at Camp Hancock State Historic Site in Bismarck

BISMARCK, N.D. – Camp Hancock State Historic Site in Bismarck will host a free mini-workshop, Historic Preservation: Dutchman Patch, July 24, 2-4 p.m. Johnathan Campbell will teach techniques for creating a dutchman patch on portions of the 1881 Bread of Life Church located at Camp Hancock.

Exterior damage often results from dry rot. "When working to preserve historic buildings, it is our goal to preserve as much of the original structure as possible during repairs,” Campbell says. “If a board has rot in a small section, a dutchman patch can repair the damage without removing the entire board."

Campbell is the site supervisor for the Former Governors’ Mansion and Camp Hancock State Historic Sites. This workshop is sponsored by the State Historical Society of North Dakota, Preservation North Dakota, and the Bismarck Historical Society.
