Please complete the  MHPC Community Concerns Survey

Many neighbors have expressed concern over recent lot clearing and building in Mordecai.

The Mordecai Historic Preservation Committee (MHPC) is gathering information and exploring city tools for making redevelopment in Mordecai more balanced and predictable.

Join us ONLINE Tuesday, July 20 at 7:30 PM. Representatives from the Raleigh Historic Development Commission will explain different options available for the neighborhood.

Neighbors can ask questions, express ideas and share concerns. All perspectives are welcome.

In the meantime, please share your opinions by filling out a short survey. This is an important part of the process — we need your voice!

Further details and meeting registration at mordecaicac.org/mhpc.

To get involved with the MHPC, email mhpc@mordecaicac.org

For the Zoom link register by 7pm on July 20.  The recorded meeting will be posted to the MCAC Facebook page.
Happy 4th of July!

Sadly, we will not be able to have the MCAC 4th of July parade this year, but we hope that this event will make a comeback in summer 2022. We hope everyone has a safe and fun holiday weekend.

Please plan to join us next on August 3 at the MCAC National Night Out/Ice Cream Social , 6:30-8:00pm at Halifax Park!

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, better places to live. For more information about National Night Out, visit natw.org/

We are looking forward to seeing and meeting our neighbors!

Devereux Meadow Project

Thank you to everyone who attended our June MCAC meeting. Gary Claiborne, Capital Projects Manager for Devereux Meadow, was our featured.  Gary gave an overview of the park plans and follow up on some of the information discussed at the May 6 open house. If you missed the meeting, you can watch the video here on our facebook page.

Public Input Survey

The city would like to hear from you about the proposed Devereux Meadow Park. After you have viewed the open house video OR attended the MCAC presentation, you are invited to participate in a survey to indicate your thoughts on the current concept plans for the future park.

What is going on with the Mordecai CAC?

The Mordecai CAC is now the Mordecai Community Action Coalition.  We are a coalition of multiple neighborhoods working together to provide ways for citizens to share information, meet each other, and take action in our community.

The current MCAC boundaries include several downtown neighborhoods (not just Mordecai Place). Our neighborhoods are varied, and include historic homes built in the 1800's up to brand new homes still under construction. There are also several townhome and condominium developments, as well as apartments and rental  communities. The Mordecai CAC is located just north of downtown Raleigh.

Mordecai Community neighborhoods:

  • Capital Park
  • East Mordecai
  • Mordecai Place
  • North Person/Blount
  • Oakdale
  • Oakdale at Mordecai
  • Oakwood (to Boundary St.)
  • The Cotton Mill
  • The Village of Pilot Mill

The MCAC also includes the Person Street business district, Seaboard Station, William Peace University, Halifax Community Center, Mordecai Historic Park, the site of the future Devereux Meadow Park, and more!

The MCAC Leadership team is open and welcomes any resident of the Mordecai Community. Our core group of 15-20 neighbors communicates regularly to plan meetings and share ideas for citizen engagement. We'd love to have more neighbors get involved. Email chair@mordecaicac.org for info.  All residents are welcome to join.

Upcoming MCAC events:

  • July 20- Special meeting, 7:30pm on Zoom
  • August 3 - National Night Out/Ice Cream Social, Halifax Community Center, 6:30-8:00pm
  • September 14 - MCAC Meeting
  • September 26 -  Mordecai Picnic, Mordecai Historic Park, 4-6pm

MCAC Meetings/Minutes

The Mordecai Community Action Coalition meets at 7:30pm on the second Tuesday of the month, September-June.  Currently we are meeting on Zoom, and we also post our meetings on Facebook.  All residents are encouraged to get involved with the MCAC.

Becky Hayes is our MCAC secretary.  Look in this section of our newsletter a link to the minutes from each meeting.  If you'd prefer to watch the video, recordings of our Zoom meetings are also posted on the MCAC Facebook page
