May 2021

Hello <<First Name>>,

The only place to start this update is with the BIG news!

EXTEND >> In the middle of June I received news that I'd been successful with an application for Create NSW Arts and Culture Funding to cover the second stage of the Mosses + Marshes project, including publishing the book and the public event program. This part of the project has been called Mosses + Marshes in Conversation. Having spent weeks working on funding applications in the past with no success, it came as a big surprise in an incredibly competitive environment. It means there are now many more ways to engage with the project over the next year, taking the conversation about the future of these wetlands well beyond the gallery walls. Keep checking in on the Events page for updates to the program.

LISTEN >> This past weekend (3 July), my Mosses + Marshes partner, Andrew Howe officially opened the Mosses Art Trail and Fenn's Whixall Moss Sound Walk in the UK. We've been working on a collaborative piece for this walk, that in some ways took us by surprise. We both acknowledged though, it would never have happened had it not been for the past two years of research, reading, questioning, and time in the field absorbing the landscapes we're focused on. Andrew's also worked with other artists on site in the Mosses as an extension of the project. You can read about it in Of the Mosses.

READ >> The Power of the Abstract is the latest blog post about the Mosses + Marshes project - now on the ecoPULSE website. It looks at how the research, observation, consultation and documentation that happens with a project like Mosses + Marshes is transformed into creative, abstract ideas that extend our thinking beyond ourselves and create connections we wouldn't otherwise make.

POSTPONE >> After some consideration, I've made the decision to postpone the overnight deep listening field trip to the Macquarie Marshes until autumn 2022 (May). I'm hoping the Covid situation may be under control by then and the ability to travel safely might be just that little bit easier. I'm pursuing other experiences to add to the field trip itinerary that will provide a broader view of the area. If you're interested, let me know by hitting the button below. There are only 5 places available. The rescheduling of this event will see it coincide with the Mosses + Mashes exhibition at the Outback Arts Creative Arts Centre in Coonamble.

SUPPORT >>  A heads up, in August I'm launching a new crowdfunding event on the Australian Cultural Fund platform to support projects under the ecoPULSE banner, including but not limited to the Lachlan project, Sonic Territories: Galari. I'm planning to be ambitious with this one - it'll run for 12 months and will offer the same tax-deductibility as previous campaigns, allowing me to look ahead, directing funds to the projects that need them when they need them. I'll let everyone know when everything is in place, but it's an exciting development that will allow for other artists and projects to come under the ecoPULSE umbrella over the coming years.

LET ME KNOW MORE ABOUT THE FIELD TRIP

Look out to the horizon and find a point -
A line extends to the point;
A line dividing left and right.
Boundaries between knowing and not knowing,
Between what we can touch and what we dream of,
Between left and right,
Between right and wrong,
Between the seen and the hidden,
Between the inside and outside.
