WEEKLY UPDATE
For Viva Village Members and Volunteers
VIVA VILLAGE NOTES

Viva Village Reopening Guidelines
The State of Oregon is lifting pandemic restrictions. Viva Village will continue with our current (June 16, 2021) guidelines until the Governing Council meets on July 6th.
Current Changes
(click the link above for more detail)

All indoor, outdoor, and transportation services are open with restrictions.
Indoor and outdoor events are reopening to in-person gatherings with capacity restrictions.
When planning meetings and events, the host and participants will evaluate the options and determine whether to meet in person or by Zoom.
Office Staffing and Usage
Starting July 1, we will slowly—and with limitations—begin to use the office.
Office volunteers will staff the office during their regular shifts.
Non-vaccinated individuals must wear a mask.
No more than four people in the office at one time.
For now, the office space will not be used for meetings (neither one-on-one nor group). Meeting readiness will be determined at a later time.

Volunteers: Reporting Hours
Reminder and Review

Congratulations to all Viva Village volunteers! We have consistently been one of the top Villages in our area in reporting volunteer hours. In fact, Villages NW has used our statistics to estimate volunteer hour totals for other VNW Villages when applying for fundraising grants.

THINGS TO KNOW:
Reporting monthly hours is separate from notifying the office when you have completed a service request.

Two Categories
Track the two types of volunteer hours separately.
Direct Service: Time spent providing services to members, including travel time to and from your home, plus preparation time, if any.
Village Support:
Includes VV meetings; planning and/or working at events; working at home; Village training. Also includes travel time.
Record your hours throughout the month in a way that works for you.
If you like spreadsheets, try Volunteer Roger Jensen's handy 'Volunteer Hours–Monthly Spreadsheet.' (Hint: for the full effect, enable macros when prompted by Excel.)

Report your previous month's hours at the beginning of each month. Find the link in the reminder email or at the bottom of the Volunteer Page of our website.

Thank you for your service and
for reporting the time you give to Viva Village!

VIVA VILLAGE CORNER

OSU Life Registry
Member/volunteer Rae Coleman shared this opportunity from the Oregon State University Center for Healthy Aging Research and the Viva Village Governing Council agreed that it may be something some of our Villagers might be interested in learning more about. This is an opportunity for anyone interested in participating in scientific studies to help researchers better understand how to promote and encourage healthy aging.

The following is adapted from their website:
  • The OSU Center for Healthy Aging Research (CHAR) includes over 50 faculty who conduct scientific research to better understand how to promote and maintain healthy aging. The LIFE Registry supports the Center's research goals by aiding in the recruitment of volunteers aged 50 and over. Center staff match registry volunteers with CHAR faculty members and their research studies. CHAR researchers conduct both in-person research and online surveys.
  • Any adult age 50 or older who lives in Oregon is welcome to volunteer for the LIFE Registry. In order to improve CHAR’s understanding of adult development and healthy aging in all its diversity, we are interested in people of all races/ethnicities, religions, physical capabilities, genders, or social positions.”
  • When you join the Life Registry you will be included in a list of potential study participants. You are not obligated to take part in any study. Your consent will be secured for each opportunity. Volunteers can opt out at any time. Click HERE to view and download information about this program.

Note: This information is provided as an FYI. We are not affiliated with CHAR in any way and in case you may have a concern, we never share member or volunteer information with any outside organization.
