A New Blog Post!

Garden Fairies Lament the Lack of…

Jul 03, 2021 07:58 am

Garden fairies here! We are garden fairies and we barely have time to write this blog post, but we feel it is our duty and responsibility to make clear what we lament.

What we lament is the lack of notice that there would be tree trimming going on in our garden.

Now, we are not talking about the tree trimming that Carol does, which is rare, infrequent, and to us, inconsequential, except sometimes when she makes a boo-boo and saws off a limb she regrets cutting off. It is at those times we think we should take away her reciprocating saw! My goodness. You should see…

Anyway, this post is not about Carol’s pruning mishaps. No. Indeed.

This post is about how we lament the lack of warning we were given that a guy would be climbing up into the honeylocust tree to remove a few dead branches and also raise up the canopy of the tree a bit. It has taken us the better of the rest of the day and evening, into morning, to calm down the tree fairies who, as we know, do not like to be disturbed in such a manner.

Ol’ Rainbow Tanglefly was the first to notice the crew that showed up. Thank goodness nothing much gets past him. Right away, he sent Seedy and Soddy back to the tree to alert the tree fairies. They ran as fast as they could and sounded the alarm. Then all the tree fairies went running off to safe spaces to wait out the tree trimming.

They were joined by Granny ‘Gus’ McGarden, who provided snacks from the vegetable garden, which she is in charge of, though truthfully, there isn’t much to eat right now from the garden. But Granny managed with some bits of lettuce and kale and onion.

Anyway, we are garden fairies, so we would like to clarify. We are pro-pruning, when it is done right. And it was done right to this tree and quite necessary to do too. After all, some of those branches, as you can see from the picture above, hung nearly down to the ground after a good rain.

And to her credit, we think Carol did try to warn us with some of her own tree trimming the day before. But that’s all the credit she gets. We are garden fairies!
