The number of persons testing positive for COVID has jumped significantly in the past weeks, as did the admissions to hospitals.  Due to government directives, the Tebow Cure Hospital is now required to set aside beds and host lower level COVID patients. Tighter reistrictions are in place throughout the Davao Region. We carefully continue on with ministries, with some limitations in place, especially regarding in person worship services.  Leyte Island is also under restrictions due to the increase in the number of cases there as well.

July 2021 Photo Update

Dear <<First Name>>,

Our partnership with the Tebow Cure Hospital brings many opportunities to bless families. We continue to provide transportation and housing so the children can have access to life changing surgeries. The major focus right now is cleft lip/palate repairs and clubfoot cases. There are many still on waiting lists for their appointments and upcoming surgeries.  The cleft lip and palate repairs are supported through a partnership with Smile Train. This includes not just surgeries but as needed, speech therapy. We are hopeful that dental services will soon be included.

Three vehicles are in use most days along with some contract vehicles when needed.

Patient screening continues in the field three days a week.  It is always good to have some wooden cars and nice clothing to leave with the children. Thanks to Dresses for Orphans and Toys for God's Kids for donating these items.

Families staying at the REST House receive free food/lodging and also clothing items. Other sites are also in use for housing cases as they await for admission clearances. All cases, mother/child are PCR-COVID tested prior to surgeries along with other laboratory test and x-rays.

We were blessed to have additional funds donated to supply two more families with sustainable livelihood. Put-puts units #70 and #71 were dedicated and released to families.

M-W-F feeding continues with the put-put drivers as does Bible study and fellowship on Fridays.  We had to shut down/modify things for a couple of weeks due to restrictions on gatherings of any type.

We also were blessed by donors who provided funds for two more boats. Four more are on order.  This will bring the total number of boats to 112.

Most of the new boats are going to a village where doors are opening for deeper relationships with the community. A new church was birthed through the pump boat livelihood program.  We rejoice how God uses these boats for His purposes to bring people into the Kingdom!

Some clothing was recently shared with the new church members.  Pastor Jonas was also able to be a guest speaker for the opening event.

In the nearby Mag-Asu village, a wedding took place - a first for this community to have a wedding ceremony on site, happening within the village due to the COVID restrictions. Most of the persons living in Mag-Asu have their livelihood through the SOD pump boat program.

A nice catch from the fisherman's village area in Palompon.

From Pastor Jonas: "Congratulations to Greg Booc for having faithfully completed the four year pump boat livelihood agreement (from Oguinsan Village).  He was able to save a generous amount of weekly maintenance funds for general boat repair, engine parts needed and some for his fishing needs. Greg's family was so happy to have been awarded ownership of the Saved By Grace Boat. Grateful to the Lord and sponsor for the gift of sustainable livelihood."

The ministries of the Aplaya Center continue to proper under the leadership of Pastora Lazel. Recently, we established a stronger partnership with Care Channels Inc., through a Memorandum of Agreement.  SOD will continue to fully fund the programs. Care Channels will oversee the daily operations through Pastora Lazel. Care Channels is increasing their support as well for scholarships, community gardening and evangelism efforts.

As part of the scholarship program, discipleship is done with the scholars each week along with home visitations.

School has ended for the year at the Marilog High School of Agriculture.  All of the supported students (22 senior high school and 7 college students) successfully completed their classes.  End of year activities included the giving of gifts/rewards to the students and families.

On Leyte Island, the 50 supported high school scholars were also given much needed food items for their families through the partnership with the Ormoc City Baptist Church.

Bible distributions have paused for a time while we are trying to obtain additional funds for the purchase of Bibles.  We receive reports each week on the use of the Bibles from the rural churches where they were distributed in 2020-21.

Feeding programs continue in some rural communities but are paused on the school campuses. It seems no face to face classes will be allowed in the 2021-22 school year.

We are very thankful for your prayers and your ongoing financial support as we continue to intentionally share the gospel message through the many good works opportunities God has assigned to SOD.

Always thankful to God for your partnership in the gospel,

Peter Cowles for the SOD Boards, staff and grateful recipients of your prayers and generosity

Colossians 3:17   And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
