Rob...

The schedule for July is as follows:
  • July 11: Bethel Mennonite Church
  • July 18: Prairie Presbyterian Church
  • July 25: Windsor Park United Church
While Rob is on vacation, the senior convenor of our General Committee, Bob McCamis, will be monitoring the church phone and email.

From your...

Mission Committee: your generous Givings to the PCF Missions are disbursed by the PCF Missions Committee to support local, regional and international charitable causes.  The Missions Committee recently agreed to send $500 each to the following three causes:

1JustCity offers love and support to Inner-City Residents from three drop-in community centres in Winnipeg’s core neighbourhoods: West Broadway, the West End and Osborne Village. It services include daily meals, art, senior’s programs, haircuts, showers, laundry, toiletries, and clean undergarments.  To raise essential funds for the West End Drop-in Centre - St Matthews Maryland Community Ministry, the 2021 Urban Retreats Virtual Garden Tour is being held this month.  If you would like to tour four beautiful Winnipeg gardens from the comfort of your home and support the West End Drop-in Centre more details can be found at  www.1justcity.ca/garden-tour

Open Doorways Orphanage Inc is a Beausejour charitable group that operates an orphanage in Haiti. Although there has been an increase in violence recently the children in the orphanage located at Deschapelles outside the capital are safe and also remain COVID free.
The children were able to attend school this past term.  Additional information can be found at www.opendoorwaysorphanage.ca

Sandy-Saulteaux Spiritual Centre (www.sandysaulteaux.ca) at Beausejour is an Aboriginal Theological and Ministry Training Program of the United Church of Canada that prepares Aboriginal people for lay and ordered ministry by affirming a style of leadership appropriate to Aboriginal culture.  It also provides cross-cultural and spiritual awareness for the larger community.  A recent addition to their programming is the Return of the Buffalo initiative on fostering family well-being. It means returning to the land, returning to Indigenous ways of life and returning to the teaching of respect for all relationships.

And another thing...

...and not-for-profit at that!

And now...

a bit of an apology.  When I checked last week's "What's up" at 8:50 Sunday morning, I realized that the "hyperlink" that linked the word HERE to the Bethel Mennonite Church website didn't work, so I had to scramble and issue a revised "What's up" with that hyperlink in place.  I managed to post it at 9:15 AM that morning, in the nick of time for the 10:00 AM worship service but sorry for any confusion.

PWS&D...

(Presbyterian World Service &Development), as a partner with the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, is supporting Partners in Health Canada with a two-year humanitarian nutrition response in Hinche, Central Haiti, from April 2021 to March 2023.

Food insecurity and malnutrition in Haiti is driven by many factors, including poor infant and young child feeding practices, lack of access to clean water and sanitation, high unemployment, and poverty. The pandemic has also resulted in fewer sources of income for households.

This project seeks to deliver a package of evidence-based services for the treatment of acute malnutrition in the commune of Hinche, a town of about 50,000 people. It focuses on strengthening nutrition treatments through active case-finding of acutely malnourished children, community-based management (including provision of ready-to-use therapeutic food), and inpatient treatment of children with severe acute malnutrition with medical complications.

The project aims to reach 15,000 individuals.

Mennonite...

Central Committee Canada, another partner with the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, is supporting Forum for Development, Culture and Dialogue with a 15-month food assistance response in Syria. This project is part of the Foodgrains Bank’s ongoing Syrian crisis response, which includes multiple projects implemented by various Foodgrains Bank members and their partners.

Although active conflict has decreased in many parts of Syria, the need for ongoing food assistance remains. High prices, inflation and few employment opportunities, combined with massive displacement caused by the conflict, are contributing to continued high levels of vulnerability. As of February 2020, it is estimated that 7.9 million Syrians were in need of food assistance.

This project will continue to provide essential food to 6,000 families (approximately 36,000 people). Beneficiaries will receive food baskets containing rice, bulgur, spaghetti, chickpeas, lentils, vegetable oil, olive oil, sugar, salt, canned meat, tea, and tomato sauce.
